Dr. Chung
Hello everyone,
I just made my appointment for Dr. Chung on 11/13. I'm coming from Houston, TX and my insurance is Tricare Prime.
My first question is, what is your opinion of Dr. Chung?
Also, I wanted to know how many appointments did you guys have to go to, and about how long did the process take from beginning to end.
Thank you for your time,
Imani Batiste

I've heard that he is good doctor. I only chose the doctor that I did because of his experience with the procedure that I was having.
I have United Healthcare Insurance through my employer and the initial process took less than three weeks but then a new year started and I had to go through the process all over again and it took about 5-6 weeks.

Hi Imani:
I had surgery with Dr Chung 3 years ago, and down 135 lbs. I think you are going to find him a wonderful and caring surgeon. He really cares about his patients, and his office staff is the best. They are always available for any questions and very helpful, even though he is extremely busy. I tell all my friends, and they all have great success with him as well. My friends and I got the surgery pretty quickly (we have United Healthcare), but I dunno anything about Tricare Prime. But I am sure Dr Chung office will help you with the approval process. Overall dealing with his office has been easy and very pleasant. I think you will find the same opinion as I have after the visit. Keep us updated.

Dr Chung did a VSG for me on 10/31.
First of all, I can't say enough good things about him. He took ample time to explain everything to me, e-mailed with me and was available by phone... These things were very important to me since I don't live in Lake Charles either.
First appt - Weigh in and discuss options
Second appt - Counciled with my husband - explained procedure and what to expect afterward and signed paperwork - went to pay anesthesiologist (insurance wouldn't cover) - went to hospital for EKG, Labs and chest x-ray.... all of this is covered in the price... the hospital was as friendly and helpful as Dr Chung's staff
I return today to have (6 days post op) to have the drain removed. Glad to see that thing go!
Hope that helps
Oh also... Dr Chung will give you some paperwork that is very informative with a day by day guide on what to eat and how to progress after the diet... it took away all the :guesswork"

dr. chung did my byspass too. He did my scope on oct 1, and my bypass on Oct 2. The process was really fast. I had a consultaion, a week later I got approved (federal blue cross/blue shield). I went in to talk about the diet, and she said when do you want to do the surgery, pick a day. Dr. chungs staff are all very nice..dr chung is a good doctor.
I was so happy to get that drain tube out, I hated that stupid thing!
good luck

It took me about 3 months beginning to end. I saw Chung twice before the surgery. One initial consultation; another right before surgery. I was on the phone with his staff weekly though. Getting all the forms and documentation required by my insurance company took the most time. I like Chung, but he did not take as much time with me as I felt he should. He gives you all the info you need and then lets you be the one to decide which is good I guess. Ihave nothing to complain about him, I don't know what I was expecting. The thing I liked most about him was his thorough info at the seminar. I hope you attend that. I healed from the surgery welll, and I do feel he is an excellent surgeon.
