I just sent in my insurance information to Dr. Merriman in Shreveport this week. I hope to hear from them soon with an appointment, then I guess it will be seminars and appointments and probably a six month diet and exercise plan to qualify for my insurance. So...it's gonna be a while yet. But...I am up to my 40 BMI and have been for at least six months now. That's another qualification thing with my insurance.
I was diagnosed with diabetes in April. I just had to have a stricture forced out in my eosphagus this past week, due to scarring from acid reflux. One would think that having diabetes, Gerd, hiatal hernia and sleep apnea would be enough to qualify me for the surgery,,,,but I guess not. They say I have to prove that I cannot lose weight thru diet and exercise....duh! I CAN lose...just not for long..LOL.
Oh well, I've waited this long....guess I can wait a few more months.

I love Dr. Merriman and his wife Katy! They are sponsors for the Walk From Obesity event. Good luck as you embark on this WLS journey.

Hey Judy,
The lab work and psych eval won't be too bad and the 6months of dieting will go by fast. You know we are all pros at dieting...it's the keeping the weight off that has been the problem. Keep us informed as to how your journey is going.
Hey Beasley,
What's going on with your employers? Do they have an exclusion clause? That has been my case for the past few years so I've decided to just be self pay. I should know if I have my loan by the next 2 weeks and then I'll go ahead and schedule the surgery for January.

I honestly don't know if they have an exclusion clause. I'm just filing an appeal with HR right now to see if they'll change their minds because of the mix up. If they don't I found some attourneys that handle obesity descrimination cases. I'll probably talk to them and see if there's anything they can do to help. In the mean time I'm going to my PCP to do the supervised diet thing. At least I'm covering all the bases I can.
