I'm 3 years out today.  I've gone from 390 pounds to 275 pounds.   Even after losing over 100 pounds I still at times feel like I've failed.  I WANT IT ALL OFF....  I'm really feeling the need for a support group and/or exercise group in the Baton Rouge area to help me keep the faith and get the rest of the weight off.

WOW, what an accomplishment . . I had the sleeve 7 months ago and I can assure you -- if I had not gone to the support group meetings I would not have had the success that I have had.  I have lost 85 lbs. and have about 45 lbs. left to lose.  I also have joined an exercise place in Baton Rouge called Contours Express and I luvvvvv it! . . I want to tell you about our support group in Baton Rouge and encourage you to come.  Unfortunately, we will not have a support group meeting in July (because of the 4th of July), but we meet every 1st Thursday of the month.  The New U Support meets at our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge . The practice is The Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge , but meetings and membership are open to any postop patient. You can visit the SGBR Weight Loss site at www.SGBRWeightloss.com .  If you're interested in attending I can give you additional info. re: the meeting place --- good luck --- FAYE

Thanks for the response and support.  Yes I would very much like to know more about both your support group and exercise place.  I've been to curves before, but I have never heard of Contours Express.   What times are the support group meetings?

The support group meetings start at 6:30 pm --- Although I have never been to Curves, I understand that Contours Express is similar . . you can go on-line to www.contoursexpress.com and you can get information about their exercise program --- in fact, there is a comparison to Curves on that site . . . although I've been posting on OH for almost 8 months now, I am not sure how I can post my e-mail address/phone number without anyone else seeing it --- I'd like to talk to you . .FAYE

Hello Dufaye! We have a lot  in common. I'm four years, but had my band removed earlier this year. I've gained a little from my lowest weight and I'm trying to lose another 100 pounds. I'm pretty much without a tool right now, but plan to have a revision at some point in the future. I'm in Baton Rouge (Zachary, Baker, Scotlandville area) and looking for some workout buddies. I'm a member of Contours Express, but I also ride my bike and I've taken tennis and bellydancing classes. Our group - New U - is not meeting at Our Lady of the Lake next week, but I'm coordinating two activities before and after the Fourth. There's a playdate set for July 3 at MonkeyBizz. If you don't have a child or grandchild, you can stil come out and sit and talk to others who have had surgery. We are planning a trip to Tickfaw State Park July 5. My husband, little girl and I will be riding our bikes, hiking, splashing in the water and possibly grilling something at the end of the day. There's also fishing and canoeing at the park. Eventually, I might swim again, but I haven't decided what to do with my dread locks which are almost shoulder length and heavy when wet. So, there ya go ... let's enjoy the blessings of the Lord in the great outdoors. I would love to meet you and plan some workouts.  Onward! Frances
