I am having my RNY on June 25.  I am currently living in Florida and having the surgery here.  I will be moving back home in January as my husband is military and will be going Overseas for 15 months.  I was wondering if I could attend support group meetings in the BR area even though I am not a patient of a local doctor???  What do y'all think???  I also need to find a Bariatric doctor that accepts Tricare for my follow up appointments.

I don't live in the BR area but I am sure that there are support groups in BR.  Someone will answer you from BR.

There is a meeting on Wednesday nights at 6:00 at the Women's Fitness Center on Jefferson @ Bluebonnet.  It is for patients of Dr. Hargroder, but I bet if you contacted his office they would encourage you to attend the meetings.

Hello Angela, I encourage you to join a few if you can so you can meet a wide variety of people and have a wide range of schedules -- I see there's a spud there and mommies need *lots* of flexibility. The New U Support meets at our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. The practice is The Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge, but meetings and membership are open to any postop patient. You can visit the SGBR Weight Loss site at www.SGBRWeightloss.com and stay tuned for a special patient portal, NewUSupport.com coming soon. Tricare might be a challenge, but I do know that Dr. Keith Chung in Lake Charles sees a lot of army wives and husbands from Fort Polk. I'm not sure who does Tricare in Baton Rouge, but I'll ask. Wishing you well, Frances

Hi Frances, Thanks so much for your help.  I will definitely check into it.  I will have a little more flexability at night as I will be living at home with my mom and she will be able ****ch my son.  I am familiar with OLOL.  My dad passed away from Cancer in February and he was a patient at Mary Bird Perkins.   I am having a difficult time finding a bariatric surgeon who accpets Tricare in the BR area.  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks again!!  Do you mind if I add you?
