I'm pretty new to all of this. Been blogging a little, but I thought I'd say hi on the message boards! I was originally from New Orleans, moved to Lafayette in '05 after the hurricane. My wife and I are both looking into WLS, since the repeated pattern of dieting attempts just don't get any results... I've been working at losing weight since the beginning of the year - and I've lost a pound a week - but it's going to take another two years to reach my goal, and I'd be crazy to think that dieting like I have before is actually going to give be different results. WLS became an option after one of my friends had success with her RNY, and I have another friend getting her lap band in July. Looking at the results and reading some of the great stories here have also been very convincing. We've been to the initial seminar, and our first consultation is in about 3 weeks. Looking forward to it. I'm doing as much research as possible right now - there's so much to learn! Bonjour, Louisiane! Mike

Hey!! That's me! I am the friend getting lap band in July!! Woohoo I feel special, I was mentioned in your post!
I am so excited that you are looking into it! I am so excited that you are blogging and posting here. Makes me feel like I'm not alone. Is the wife ever going to get on?
I have to go sign consent papers in 19 days and then it's just a little over two weeks til surgery day. I have to tell you, I am so freaked out about failing. You are going to do great on it. I have no doubt about that. Me, I doubt.
Love ya!! Give my best friend a kiss for me.
Congratulations on exploring the acquistion of the greatest tool ever invented. My insurance company made me jump thru needless hoops over the last several years. I used that opportunity to learn about the 2 most common types of surgery, at the time...LapBand and RNY. I'd made up my mind that I was going to go the RNY route. My insurance ultimately declined to approve my surgery, twice. I realized that the quality of life I was leading, was not living! So, I'd rather bite the financial bullet and improve my quality of life and extend my life at the same time. Getting run over by a train has not been figured in on the equation. I had my consultation in early January. That's when the doctor briefly told me of the VSG surgery. Eureka! EVERYTHING I had learned over the last several years flew out the window! I had had fear that with the RNY, I would have to address nutritional imbalances in later life. That always bothered me, but I figured I'd address it when the time came. Once I learned the facts about the VSG, THIS is what I wanted! No question about it! I could have the PERFECT SURGERY, lose weight and NOT have vitamin deficiencies? Where do I sign? I had my VSG surgery on 01-22-08. I have been flying 2 feet off the ground since that day. For the first time in my life, I know what normal hunger feels like and I know what normal fullness feels like. I am freaking FREE! For all the stops the The Great Mandela of Life will make for and your wife you along this journey of life, I wish all the best to you and your family. Go get 'em, Tigers.
