Surgeon?

Hi all, I've not posted on here in a LONG time. I had Gastric Bypass surgery in September of 2004 and have lost 143 lbs. The reason I am posting now is to find out if anyone knows anything about the new bariatric doctor in Monroe. I think that Dr. Price left, but am pretty sure that they have someone new. My surgery was in New Orleans (pre Katrina) and now ALL of my doctors are no longer in the state. I need to have my records transferred to someone more "local". I live in Ruston and could go to Shreveport, but Monroe is closer IF the doctor there is good. Thanks for any information anyone has to offer. Pam    aka Piggybabe

Can't help you with the Ruston Monroe area but Dr. George Merrimen in Shreveport is great.  He offers a great post op program.  I am 2 1/2 years post op and when I went in at 2 years he still spent a lot of time with me.  He is worth the drive in my opinion...

Shygirl,  Dr. Merrimen offers seminars all the time for lap band and RNY surgeries.  If I remember right when I first went to the seminar he talked about all the procedures that he does.  After the seminar I made an appt and went in an talked with him.  He listened to all my questions and really took time with me.  I don't know much about the lapband but I know he has done 100's of them.   He does his surgeries at Schumpert Main and Doctors Hospital.     Good luck with your decision.

I actually like Dr. Norwood and his staff.  They were very professional yet made me feel like I was worth a million bucks.  I did consult TWICE with Dr. Merriman and although I did like him, his staff left a LOT to be desired.  Danielle treated me like a child (I am in my 40's, work in the medical field and my husband is a physician) and I actually wrote the office administrator, Wayne, and reported her behavior.  I opted to go elsewhere because of the way I was treated.  I felt that Dr. Merriman staff felt that they had so many patients that they could really care less if you use them or not.  I have heard folks that just loved them and thought they walked on water.  I wish that I could say that was the experience I had with his office but it is not.

Hi there, I just met with Dr. Merriman in Shreveport today for my initial consultation.  He is very understanding, personable and very knowledgeable.  He mde me feel comfortable with the decision to have Lap Band surgery.  Others here on the forum speak very highly of him.  I believe you will find him worth the drive.  I have Parkinson's disease and I go to Houston, TX. to a special PD clinic & research center known throughout the world.  Go where you can get the best care.  You are worth it!   Luvstosew
