Crossed Another Hurdle

Today was my appointment with the surgeon.  I could not have asked for it to go better.  I got to the appt. an hour early fully expecting to have to wait.  (Went early to make sure we had enough time if traffic backed up or we could not find the place.)  Can I tell you I was out of there before my appt. we even scheduled to begin.  The place truly runs like a well oiled machine.  And yes, despite my dreams of not getting to meet my surgeon, I did get to meet him.  He is as nice as described and definitely has the air of confidence one would want their surgeon to have.  He gets my seal of approval!  The appt was very routine.  He explained the process of a gastric bypass operation and answered most of my questions before I needed to ask.  He did tell me he did not anticipate any problems and the majority of complications (ie:death) happen to individuals who are extremely ill prior to the surgery.  Since that is not me - I have even more confidence.  He also complimented me on my 26.5 lb weight LOSS.  Yep, me - I have lost 26.5 lbs since March 3rd!!!!!  Next step - sit and wait.  I have to wait to hear from the surgery coordinator.  Once I have a date for surgery, I will post it EVERYWHERE!!!

That is great.  Dr. Lavin is an expert surgeon.  I have had no complications.  Did you get to meet Chris, the NP?  She is so nice.  I hope you get a date soon.  Good luck!

Yes, I met Chris. Not sure how the process worked when you had your surgery, but now you go to Chris initially and after you complete the pre-op homework, you get to meet your surgeon.  Meeting Dr. Lavin was like winning the Gold Cup..LOL

That is how it worked when I had my surgery.  I did not see him until a week before my surgery.  I make my appts now with Chris unless I have a question for him and then I see them both.  

This is wonderful news and I'm so glad you are tooting your doctor's horn. The practice has an absolutely wonderful reputation for expert care and patient concern. I have several good friends and a co-worker in the practice and only hear A-No. 1 things about them. You are losing at a great weight pre-op. That teamed, with your medical knowledge and positive attitude, will make you the "one of watch in 2008." Question, any chances you might come down for another New U session? I'm selfishly hoping to meet you soon. If not, let's do lunch or a coffee break sometime next week. Keep up the god work! Frances

Thank you!  I am planning to attend the New U meeting.  In fact, the reason I was able to make the one last month was because I was in Baton Rouge at a training for work.  I live in cajun country on the bayous of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish.
