I'm still on full liquids.  I love my V-8, but thats not protein.  I get about 30 grams in aday and trying for more.  It's struggle for sure.  That pureed stage is rather confusing.  Went to the Nut on Friday and 1 hour.  It  was more understandable.  Chris said I could use Benefiber 'cuz of that problem I'm still having.  Had 1/2 cup coffee this am.  Other than that I'm doning ok.  Jan

The protein was hard in the very beginning.  I had to gradually work up the amount that  I had. I started with Carnation Instant Breakfast, No sugar added...with 1/3 cup dried milk, mixed with 2% milk.  That was all I could stomach my first two weeks (after the initial two clear liguids)  I eventually got around to getting more protein in....such as Nectar and GNC brand.  I was told to work my way up as I could tolerate it.  When I was on my full liquid phase one of my favorite things was Campbell;s bean and bacon soup....I put it in the blender and made it liquid consistency...I craved this and the funny thing  I never liked this soup prior and don't like it now..but lived on it for weeks after my surgery.  The beans had protein too.... Hang in there!!!!

You are so lucky that you like V8.  I didn't like it before surgery but I was so excited when I was allowed to have it after surgery.  I bought a pack of the small cans and I hated it.  I think you are doing very good getting in 30 grams of protein.  Doesn't the pureed stage include mashed potatoes?  I remember going to Popeyes and getting a side of mashed potatoes.  It tasted like heaven!!!  Also, doesn't pureed include yogurt?  I love Dannon Light & Fit.  You are lucky that they allow a little coffee now.  I remember Chris wouldn't let me have any coffee until 8 weeks out. I thought that was stupid.  And then only 4 oz a day.  Chris probably realized that the coffee wouldn't hurt.

Well, when I told her that I was having some difficulty in going, she said drink about 1/2 cup.  Coffee is a good antioxident.  I really doctor my V-8 juice up and I'm loving it too.  I do need to get my magic bullet out and start using it next week. With all of your suggestions it should be better to get those proteins in. The nut at Omega says NO mashed pot.  Only baked with some low fat cheese.  Yogurt Dannon its ok, its not Yoplait.

I don't eat mashed potatoes now because they have too many carbs but in the pureed stage I did eat them.  Did she say why?  I eat the Dannon because it is only 60 calories. I met my son and daughter in law at Cafe du Monde this morning for breakfast.  They miss beignets (sp?) since they live in the Dallas area.  I really didn't mind watching them eat them.  I had already eaten and I just had cafe au lait with them.

You know at the teaching class the nurse said we could and the NUT said no. But, I dont know why I couldnt have the fake ones and diltute them with spray butter. I love beignets. And all the food New Orleans has to offer. i guess I'm just missing all the food I cant have. Hope it gets easier. We just got back from Gulf Shores about 40 minutes ago. Put everything away and sat down to relax and read the mail and get on my laptop while watching "Doom". Some crazy science-fiction movie.

When I had my surgery, Dr. Lavin didn't have a nutritionist.  All I had was the teaching class before surgery with an RN.  I was on my own after that with the calendar of stages.  I could ask Chris if I had any questions.  I know someone that had his surgery at Ochsner and he ate mashed potatoes during the pureed stage. It will get easier.  I really do miss some of the food I used to eat.  Two of my sons got married after I had surgery and I did not even have one piece of their wedding cake.  I also miss King Cake.
