Crawfish??

Ok, so a firiend of mine had gastric bypass and her main protein for several months was boiled crabs.  She enjoyed going out to eat with her family and having the crabs because it took her awhile to peel them so she felt like she was eating right along side her family and not missing out on much.  So I know crabs are safe, but the question is...can the pouch tolerate crawfish?  Please tell me you are able to eat crawfish after gastric bypass.  I just don't know how this cajun girl would survive the season without eating them a few times.

I did not eat any crawfish until I was about 3 months out from surgery.  I can tolerate a few but they make me very full.

Hey C, I had my 1st visit to the Nut yesterday.  She said not to eat until about 2-3 months out and probably then it might not pass thru.  I guess its all individual.  J

Well I live in a crawfish capital over here in Pierre Part..talk about hard, today some of my family came over and boiled some..I told them to go ahead I didnt mind, but it did nearly drive me nuts...I am only 2weeks out tomarrow.  My husband took about 5 crawfish out really early before they soaked,  and I didnt really eat them, I just would peel em, then I chewed on it for a second or two, then spit it out, I know that might sound gross but God it tasted so good.   It didnt do me anything thing Thank God.  Probably not a good idea though, but ya know how hard headed us cajuns can be!! My paper says not to eat them until 2-3 monthes out.

I don't expect to be having surgery until the end of Crawfish season this year and it will hopefully be long past 3 to 4 months when it comes around next year!  I can relate Patricia - hard headed cajun woman here too!

I am 19 months out but I had my surgery in July.  I was eating crawfish as soon as I was off liquids.  I am enjoying them this year. Don't eat too fast though swallowing air while you are eating is not a fun thing.  Try the crawfish.  Its a great source of protein, like shrimp and crabs.  This Louisiana gal is still loving her seafood and so is my grouchy pouch!

To me it seems as though that would just melt in your mouth...go away carbs...go away.......

I think you could. You need to chew them really well. Your pouch will let you know when you have had enough.  I wouldn't be dipping until you know you can tolerate the crawfish. I step at at time, please.  POTATOES, nah........ thats what started the problem.  Sounds good but not good for you.  Nothing taste as good as slim and healthy feels.   I have some extra shells for little debbie if you wanna do the girl in or we could just avoid her all together!.   Carbs eating at your brain.  Take a walk, busy your hands with something until the carb monster goes back to the darkness.  Protein first and most, veggies and carbs last if at all.  If you are like me.  No carbs is better!  Let me know about that hit on lil' debbie, we can muster up plenty of help.

Hi Patricia, Crawfish is a very good option -- low in fat, good protein, but everything normally associated with them is pretty for the I'm probably the only person here who will prefer to do other things with crawfish than boil them. I don't like the pepper and salt on my hands and the salt my my BP are not good combinations. One option is a dip/paste made with spices and pureed crawfish. Another is soup with crawfish and shrimp finely chopped or pureed again -- crawfish bisque! This is not the Lap Band in me talking, but look at the labels on the Ketchup and Mayo -- high fructose corn syrup is your sworn enemy. If I had an RNY I would avoid dumping at all costs. Find some natural dip-ish stuff or make your own. I would hate to see ya hurling over some 59 cents Ketchup. Carbs are not all bad, but everything mentioned is processed, over worked, dangerously-crappy carbs. Try some high fiber, home-cooked carbs like beans or mashed sweet potatoes (later) ... eventually, your body will crave what's good for it, but you do have to go cold-turkey for a while here. Take care and good luck, Frances
