Hi Everyone, I am staffing an Alternative Spring Break trip in a few weeks. I group of college students will travel to New Orleans to help with the Katrina recovery. Not sure if I will have any free time to meet up with anyone. But I wanted to know what are some must do's while there...we will be working during the day and have our evenings free...apart from resting...and it's a no alchohol trip...so need some good clean fun.

Hello Sarah! I've not seen you since your most recent plastics victory so this would be a great opportunity to see you again. (ahhh, Lexington!) I did some work for a couple of groups in Nola post-K including ACORN's work in the Lower Ninth Ward and surrounding areas. I'm about an hour away, but I was thinking of making a visit to one of our campuses there to see an exhibit. I work for the Southern University System and SUNO is a part of our group of five campuses. I'll be headed to Florida (go figure) the week of March 23, but let me know if you are going to be in Nola before or after that. Take care, Frances

It would be my suggestion that you all ride the street car down St. Charles Ave.  It's just a really nice part of town and a unique way to experience it.  Also, I love heading to the Riverwalk.  Neat places to shop and site see.  Got to check out the Fudgery.  They put on a good show while making the fudge.  Enjoy!

Thanks! Last year I took a group to Greenville, SC and one night we went downtown to just walk around, got coffee, etc. It was sooo nice...we all just entertained each other!

I Love New Orleans and my suggestion is just to enjoy some of the "culture" . . The street car ride through the Garden District is wonderful -- and so inexpensive . . . also, you'll want to walk down Decateur Street and see lots of things and there's even a flea market at the end . . . I don't know what area you'll be staying in, but definitely go to the Riverwalk shopping area and there's areas out there just to sit around (by the river) and "socialize" ---- there's even a Starbucks close . . . . they also have chartered bus tours that you might be interested in --- Cajun Queen and Creole Queen cruises -- some dinner cruises and others just go out for a couple hours. go to Grayline Tours (I believe it's www. graylineneworleans.com) and they have lots of tours and also   www.bigeasy.com  and www.notours.com ----- just be careful both during the day and at night--- be aware of your surroundings at all times --- not trying to scare you because I go all the time and have never had a problem --- but lots of tourists, etc. in New Orleans ------  Enjoy!  FAYE
