Hello Neighbors, If you are a state employee or school (public or college) employee, does your insurance cover WLS?  Also what insurance do you have?  Thanks in advance. Debra

In the state of Louisiana, the Office of Group Benefits, handles our insurance packages. They have three carriers, but all three exclude wls per decision of the Office of Group Benefits.  I work in higher education and chose United Health Care. I hope this helps, Frances

Thank you Frances, I also work in higher education, but our one and only insurance has an exclusion.  I guess I will continue searching, I'm trying to stay in higher education until I retire in seven years, but find an insurance that will pay for WLS. Thanks again. Debra 

I work for a public school system and have coverage with United Health Care. The surgery is not covered because  my parish school system does not have the rider on my poilcy. You need to call your human resouce dept and they will let you know. They are not all the same. No rider no chance. I am paying for my surgery it hurt but I paid yesterday, surgery in 10 days. I work for the State and have Humana insurance through the Office of Group Benefits. There is an exclusion for WLS. I had to go to Mexico and have Dr. Joya perform my Lap Band. The problem is that I cannot find fill dr.s to deal with me. If  I can find a self pay dr for fills and a doc on my insurance to do follow up and x-rays, I would be happy.

Hey, I was told that Dr Tina Wells in Gonzales will do fills for Mexico patients.
