Got a date and a couple questions.

Dr. Chu's office called me on Monday and said "Ok we have you ready for surgery on the Monday the 21st" I was so excited, excited beyond words. I have been on the liquid diet since then. I went yesterday for my lab work, x-rays and such. Had my final appointment with Dr. Chu. I came up with a couple questions this morning that I didn't think to ask her. So maybe you guys can answer them.

How long did it take for the incisions to heal adn how long did you have to keep them bandaged? I'm sure they will go over this in the hospital afterwards but I was just curious.

Also a question about alcohol. I know it should only be in moderation and I am far from a "gotta have it" kinda person but i do like to get together with friends and have a drink now and then. How long did you wait to try to drink any?

Thank you for your time,

Jamie

Hello, Jamie! Congrats on surgery and this fast moving progression. You want to hear all this from Dr. Keith's friendly face, but here goes: The incisions are teeny tiny. They heal quickly. The port incision is the only one that will form a long scar -- it will still close quickly case it's not deep. I didn't have bandages, I have steri-strips and they fell off less than a week after surgery in the shower. I don't remember how long I waited for a drink. I must admit, I drink more now than I did before, but it's still not more than 4 drinks a month. I may have waited six months or more only because I had unrelated surgery two months later. I've never been a beer drinker, but I have an occassional marguarita (yikes on the carbs!) and plain, girly wine. I hope this helps...hiccup! Frances
