I try to make it the support groups in Lafayette. Most times I don't get there, but I do get a lot from the group when I go. I'm in the Lafayette area and had my surgery with Dr. Stevens at Southwest Medical. Hope to see you there some time! Best wishes, Nonnie

I haven't attended the support group meetings in Lafayette yet but I have attended one in Alexandria that is hosted by the same company out of Lafayette. They used to be called 'Hamilton Medical Group' and they merged with 'Surgical Specialists' recently. I think the next support group is on the 22nd in Alexandria. You can call the office in Lafayette for more information on the actual date and time.
Is anyone having their surgery soon with Drs Cunningham, Chu or Stevens? I will be seeing Dr. Cunningham again on the 24th and then they will submit my papers to the insurance company. Would be nice to keep in touch with others that have used the same surgeon/group.

My daughter and husband both used Dr Stevens. Very pleased with Dr Stevens. My daughter went through surgery with no problems, my husband had the chapter in complications under the section of "LEAK". Of course this was a big disappointment, but he did just find after the shock of having to have open surgery and feeding tube in place. We pushed the protein in and I feel sure that was the key to such a fast recovery.
Protein is your best friend to healing. I suggest everyone having the surgery to increase their intake of protein to help heal fast. Start a couple of weeks prior to surgery and make sure your intake is high in protein each day.
My husband would tell you today that if he had it all over again and knew about the leak, he would still do it. He is off all meds and look great at 6'2" 230lbs.
Good Luck!
Hi! I live in the Branch area and my dr is Dr. Stevens, too! I had surgery July 26, 2006 and everything went great! If you have any questions, just PM me and I will send my e-mail address. Best wishes, Nonnie

Wow more people then I thought in this area.
My doctor is Dr. Chu, I have begun my process but do not have a date yet. I will be attending the group meeting on Jan 29th. I too am looking for people to keep in touch with through this process. I know I can't do it alone. So just puttin it out there, I'm here if anyone needs.
