I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in July 2007 and have lost 78 pounds.  Is it normal to reach a plato after 6 months.  I have not lost any weight in the past 3 or 4 weeks.

Hello and congrats on your progress! What you are probably experiencing is a shift in body mass or a period of adjustment after good, steady loss. A plateau is four weeks of not losing pounds or inches. Earlier on, I had times when I was losing inches very well and not losing and once, I gained muscle mass and the scale went up, but my percentage of body fat went down -- hope that makes sense. Plateaus are extremely normal in this process and I hope you continue the course and don't feel that you need any type of trick or portion to kick start things. It's still about "protein first, limit carbs, eat your vegetables, drink tons of water and move it whenever you can. If you haven't taken measurements yet, please get a tape measure. Lots of people start monkeying with their routines before they realize they were still making progress that the scale was just not able to gauge. I wish you well, Frances
