My suggestion is order a small, share it with a friend. Eat it opened faced, use a knife and fork. Take off the top and just eat with out the bread.. . You know how bread fills us up and makes you bloat! Most places have a 6 inch or small. I make this 2 meals.
Brennans-
Skip the bananas foster, if you have to endulge steal a bite from your neighbor. But the eggs are FINE, as long as you
have them put the sauce on the side. You should be alright as long as you do not have too much of the cream sauce and Hollandaise is LOADED with all the things that make you run for the restroom. Control your Hollendaise to 2 tsps. and you should be ok. I usually cut each piece and (while not prper ettique) dip my knife in hollendaise and paint it on each individual bite. You don't need much. kind of like buttering bread. Just a pea size on the end of the knife for each bite and you will be ok.
I LOVE THIS PLACE, but becareful, I have never had a bad experience here, but have heard from others since the storm some complaints. What you have to realize is post Katrina everything is different. Things will never be what they use to be. I HOPE YOU ARE ABLE TO ENJOY THE SAME FABULOUS EXPERIENCE THAT YOU DID BEFORE. I have not seen a difference at all.
If you are a Fan of the Brennans restaurant, The family also owns. Dickie Brennans, Commanders Palace, The Palace Cafe, Mr B's, Red Fish Grill, and a few others. Commanders is where Emeril got his start. Some of them are not open for lunch since the storm and some are, Commanders use to have great lunch specials,$ 25 approx per person, but it is way cheaper than going at night .
I would also like to recommend DANTE's Kitchen, They try to use everything local (vegtables ect) and is always fresh. 736 Dante Street 504-861-3121. They have a southern / cajun /french twist and is worth checking out. I like this place a lot. And the cornbread is so yummy.
If you are going to make a night of it, (I CAN NOT BELIEVE I FORGOT THIS) Head to
Jacques-Imo's
8324 Oak Street and afterwards there is great live music next door called the Maple Leaf. Great live music like I said. There is also a gallery across the street. The artist name is Frenchy, I love his work and he use to paint live at the Maple Leaf. YOU MUST MAKE THIS A NIGHT, if you have the time. It is WELL WELL WORTH IT, and with the Maple Leaf next store, this evening will be filled with the sounds, taste and smells of New Orleans. Wear whatever you want. Just because the food is 5 star this is not a fussy atmostphe. It is laid back and relaxed. Eclectic and wonderful. You must hit these 2 places if you have the time. Here is the link to the Music Schedule. http://www.jambase.com/shows/Shows.aspx?VenueID=4952 DEFINITLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE THE TIME.
Yes --- These 2 places I forgot are the best local southern mix fare you can imagine. I would go to both. Dantes will have white table linens and Jaq's will have walmart plastic linens, You know the kind with the crazy patterns. But they are both fabulous and I can not belive I left them off the list. They are Neighborhood places. BUT SURE TO KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!!!!
Kind of the same kind of food but if you don;t have the time to try them both at least try 1.
