I'm probably about the most bias patient out there, but here goes ... Dr. Mark Hausmann and Dr. Karl LeBlanc are extremely skilled surgeons specializing, but not limited to weight loss surgery. There full practice is diverse, representing the fact that our needs as patients may change and we have surgeons who can handle a variety of needs with skilled expertise. I'm not the usual bariatric patient. Both doctors performed my bariatric surgery and I've later needed more unrelated surgeries within the same practice. My repeat surgeries are not tied to my bariatric proceedure, but it was comforting to know that the subsequent surgeries took my bariatric needs and background into consideration. (OK, you want to know...why more ... hernia repair of my c-section incision...and scarring from recurrent abdominal surgeries) These men are masters of the craft and i would trust them with my life -- oh, yeah, I guess that's evident. The aftercare program includes a support group and a continuing patient education publication. They have recently developed a partnership with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Hospital's bariatric unit and with that union, you have bariatrics joined with one of the largest medical centers in our region as opposed to the smaller, less diverse facilities and surgery centers. Again, I'm not the usual patient and I would be the first to admit that my respect for them is great. Check out the member pages for Bobbyerock, Cindee, MsPriss, or attend our informal support group meeting on January 3. If I can be of any further assistance in your journey, please don't hesitate to ask. All my best, Frances

Hi Ms. Frances S., I am writing because as of right now, I am looking, searching and seeking a good, good, good, and one of the best surgeons I can find, I am looking for a surgeon who has good reviews from his patients. I need someone who will take extra care of me and the surgery will be a success. My primary care doctor recommended the gastric bypass surgery because of all of my health problems. I have a lot of complications that is going on with my body. I found Dr. Mark Hausmann and Dr. Karl LeBlanc over the internet because the doctor that I wanted to perform my surgery do not except the Medicaid card. I have both Medicare and Medicaid. I would like to know if Dr. Hausmann and Dr. LeBlanc excepts those insurances. I sign up for their seminar on February 7, 2008 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in the auditorium.  I will still attend their seminar because I would like to know more about the gastric bypass surgery. My personal email address is [email protected]. Can you email me if you have your own personal address? Not just you, but anyone that can email me something would be beneficial that is pertaining to the surgery. Thank you all for any information in advance. Alma Pittman

Hello Alma, I wanted to briefly say that these two surgeons are excellent doctors and exceptional people. I've had several surgeries with the practice because of health complications not related to weight loss surgery. It was and still is comforting knowing that I am in the care of two surgeons who can care for all of my surgical needs; not just weight loss surgery needs. I consider them to be a personal gift from God. I will be emailing you from my personal address shortly. All my best, Frances

These are two of the best surgeons in the state (I would venture to say in the nation).  The staff is superb.  Their skills are phenomenal and the best bedside manner ever.  They always have time and try to answer all your questions.  The staff is second to none.  Most competent and caring people you will ever meet.  The surgeons encourage participation in the support group which is  very organized and meets monthly.  Support is a very integral part of this process.  There are many surgeons who perform this type of surgery  but this is not a rubber stamp operation. Each patient is a unique individual and you will be treated as such. But don't take my word for it make an appointment and then come back and tell me I'm right!  Once you go, the secret will be out!

All I can do is confirm what the other members have already said.  Dr. Hausmann did my surgery and he and his staff as well as the staff at Our Lady of the Lake are awesome. I whole heartedly recommend them.

They are awesome.  Dr. Hausmann did my Lap Band as well as my best friend's band.  Dr. LeBlanc did my cousin's gastric bypass about 4 years ago and another friends Vertical Gastric Sleeve about 6 months ago.  Another friend just came out of surgery about an hour ago with Dr. Hausmann doing her bypass. They are highly skilled and have awesome bedside manner.  Their staff is incredible!  Make an appointment and see for yourself....Oh, and it doesn't hurt that Dr. Hausmann is very easy on the eyes!  LOL

Reading this post has really helped with my anxiety about my surgery. I am going for my first consult with Dr. LeBlanc tomorrow. I am so excited and nervous. I have also heard nothing but wonderful things from my PCP about their surgical group.  I have only spoken to Amy so far and she has been so wonderful. I plan on going to the meeting on Thursday Jan 3rd also.

Looking forward to it Frances! My mom and I will be there. She is not having surgery because she has so many issues with adhesions and nearly died 10 years ago from complications from surgery. Mini thread hijack- BTW, Dr. LeBlanc is a real sweetheart. I really like him alot. We decided that I will be doing the RNY. Now all I have to do is have my nut and psych appt and upper GI done and my paperwork will be sent to AETNA. I did my labs today. I hope it doesn't take TOO long to get in with nut and psych. :)
