I have called everyone on your list and they all accept medicare but no one take medicaid. I have tried for a year now to find a doctor that takes medicaid and so noone does. If you know of one please let me know. I desperately need the surgery so that I can be around form my children.

I'ts traditional medicaid. Plain old medicaid so if thats what they accept, could you please send me a list.
I do have a referral from my primary care doc.

Hi, Everyone,
I'm new to this site and have been reading updates here for a few days. I was scheduled to see Dr. Steeb in April. However, I got a letter today saying he has resigned from pratice and LSU will no longer have a bariatric surgeon.
Anyone out there know a surgeon in Louisiana that accepts Medicaid for bariatric surgery?

After writing Governor Jindal,
I received a call from him today. Louisiana Medicaid will cover bariatric surgery if you meet these requirements:
Have tried unsuccessfully to diet or lose weight at least 3 times and it is doctor noted.
Have a body mass greater than 40
Have medical problems that are obesity related.
You do not have a drug or alcohol problem or addiction.

Louisiana Medicaid will pay for a doctor who is out of state and accepts Louisiana Medicaid.

Your doctor will have to have all the above documented in order for this process to take place and you will have to find the doctor on your own.
