  • Bariatric Surgery           Bariatric Surgery Bariatric surgery (gastric bypass surgery) is performed to treat severe obesity. A bariatric surgeon is a physician who performs surgery on the stomach and/or intestines of obese patients to reduce the size of the stomach, and therefore allow less food to be ingested, resulting in weight loss. • General Surgery           General Surgery General surgery can be performed on almost any area of the body. A general surgeon is a physician who performs surgery and provides preoperative, operative, and postoperative care to surgical patients. The endoscope can be used during operating procedures, or before surgery, to diagnose, assess and treat problem areas.

I am sorry you were misinformed. There are several of us that are on medicaid only and have been able to get in Dr bellows. That person is giving the wrong information to people. Just make sure that your regular Dr has sent a referral to them. They will not make an appointment without having the referral at first. Don't give up try to call again the numbers given by the last post. Vanessa and Sheila are awesome and will give you the information that you need. Good luck and congrats on starting your journey its a wild ride lol. If you  have any more question please feel free to ask. We don't mind answering questions. We were once in your shoes starting off.....Sherri

Hi my name is Anita and I live in Prairieville... near Baton Rouge.  I was wondering what I should expect when I go to Dr Bellows?  I'm waiting for my stupid drs office to send the refferal and make my appointment.  What will happen on the first appointment?  What will follow after?  Did you have trouble getting approval from medicaid?  I'm 330 pounds so I think that I will get approved.  H,ow long, from the first time going to see the dr, is the wait til the surgery?  Thanks and God Bless

Well I had my first visit to Dr. Bellows today! His P.A. Vanessa is great! wonderful staff as well. I have a few appts to make, but have already had my sleep apnea, psyc appt, physican supervised diet, weight loss data, physiotherapist. All I have to do is see a nutritionist, get an endoscope! So Vanessa said I am ahead of the game, and it might only take 2 months till the surgery. I will have to do the stress test once medicaide approves me! I can't even begin to tell yall how excited I am! I will be having the sleeve surgery. I need some of you to give me some tips on how to eat, and the recipies. YYYEEEEEEE HHHHHAAAAAWWWW!  Thanks to all for the support, and please let me know if I can help someone else!  Leigh
