Will Insurance Cover???

I currently have BCBS of Louisiana.  I have been told that they have an exclusion on the policy.  They will not cover it PERIOD.  I work for a small company and we are thinking of switching to United Healthcare.  Again, I've been told by our agent that weight loss surgery is specifically excluded on the Choice Plus policy.  Can anyone give me any info on what insurance will cover the surgery? Thanks

It is not that BC/BS does not cover it, its that your company chose to exclude it because it most probley made the insurance cheeper. United Healthcare is not the best insurance I have had them in the past and had some problems with them. Most insurance companies cover the surgery as long as the employer does not exclude it on the policy they choose for the employee's. Hope this helps.

We are the same way.  BC/BS of LA....we have an exclusion on our policy as well.  I like to refer to it as the "not no, but hell no" exclusion. Best of luck! Stacey

I have UHC w/ an exclusion and they refused to cover my surgery with a BMI of 49. I took the money for my surgery from my husband's 401K in the form of a medical hardship in order to pay for it out of pocket.

I have UHC Choice Plus, they were really great!!! I was approved in 1-2 days with no out of pocket  money to pay, they covered everything except my deductable.  You have to talk to the care coordination  department at UHC.  It may also depend on what plan your employer gets!!!
