Louisiana Medicaid and Lap Band

Hi!  I'm Stephanie and live in Louisiana (Covington).  My doctor has recommended lap bad surgery for me and I am having a hard time finding a doctor that accepts medicaid.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you so much

Hi Stephanie! I don't really have an answer for you but I wanted to say hello. I live in Covington too. You might try looking on-line for bariatric surgeons and just start calling them. That's how I found one who was covered by my insurance plan. Hope this helps, Jen

Jennifer, Thank you so much for your reply.  Your story is inspirational.  I'm so frustrated!  I have been searching and searching and searching and can't find a doctor in louisiana that will accept medicaid. 

Hi Stephanie, my name is Sabrina and I live in Abita Springs. I had medicaid until March of this year and I had found one that took it in Marrero but I am sorry to say he doesn't take it anymore and before I was able to have the surgery I was put on Medicare and it does pay for it at Ochsner's and I was told that Southern Surgical in Slidell could take it now. Are you on disability and if so when you make two years out on it you will get medicare also. I know this doesn't help you now, but I do feel for you because I went through it. Im new to this forum..Im on medicaid and medical neccessary for Gastric Bypass have you found any surgeron,,Im thinking i may have to go out of state.

You can try Dr. Bellows with Tulane. I am not sure if he does Gastric Bypass I'm really not so sure what that is but I do know that he does other types of weight loss surgerys and does accept louisiana medicaid.
