Im Tired of Being in the Hospital
My surgery was last Wednesday Sept 5. Everything went text book perfect other than a little bit of neasua (sp). Went home Friday felt great other than being a little tired and sore but noting that I even needed pain meds for. Well Saturday night I noticed a huge bruise on my lower left abdomin showed it to my dad who is a nurse and he said it is common after lap surgery so I was like ok and just kinda blew it off. Well around 10am Sunday morning I started getting these horrible stabbing, radiating pains in my lower left abdomin. Well I tried to take some pain medicine to see if it would work my clumbsy self dropped the bottle and spilled it, so no pain medicine. Well by the time 5pm rolled around my husband gave me no choice but to get in the car and go to the ER. I have been in the hospital since then. All they can seem to find is that my stomach where it was separated from the pouch is filling up with fluid and not draining out and causing pain so bad that if I am not on pain meds and I take a deep breath I want to just scream. They have been giving me something for the neausea and that is supposed to also help with the fluid to stop building up. They cant get it to stop so they are taking be back into surgery this morning and inserting a tube into my old stomach so that the fluid will drain.
After the long explanation I would like to know if anyone else has had this or has known anyone that has had this problem. My surgeon seems optimistic that it is going to resolve itself and Im sure it will but this pain that I keep having is horrible and from what he has told me this is not that common and he has only personally had 2 other patients that have had this happen to them. Im going to go now because Im on pain meds and I just keep rambling because I am also nervous about the tube.
My husband had RNY in Oct 23....he had problems, but not the same....he had a leak and had open surgery to fix....went home and then slipped and by catching himself, caused a leak again...back to the hospital for a week of antibotics IV, drain and tube feeding....went home with tube feeding for another 10 days....but by Christmas he was back up and doing fine and tells you to this day he would do it all over again, even with the complications...he has lost 120 lbs with no more meds to take except vits and B12 shots....he went for a check up just yesterday and his family doctors told him he was a pictures of health.
He is 54 years old and you are young and have youth on your side of healing...so just hang in there you will bounce back fast...just keep looking down the road and take my word or it it will be better very very soon...that road holds nothing but a better life for you with your health.
But so sorry you are having the problems....my daughter had it Jul 05 and sailed through it with no problems..she works in home health as an RN and has seen all these complications and knows things do get better...keep in touch!
