Dr. does not take medicaid...
Awww i'm sorry Kisha, Please dont be sad...i've been following your post and i was so happy about the information that you had received and i had great hope for you...Now this: Shame on you Dr. Ordoyoe...you were the last great hope for Kisha and many others...Keep your prayers going Sis because with God all things are possible! Dreamz
Believe it or not, Dreamz, Dr. O is one of the good guys. This is an incredible workload to put on one or two doctors and he was the last hold out. His practice just got snowed under...sad, but true.
In this competitive world of medicine, the doctors must survive by getting compensated for surgeries. The programs basically force the doctors to not accept government-based forms of payment by keeping their level of compensation extremely low. They say "yes, we cover it," but for 1/2 or 1/3 the going rate.
I'll drop a line to the obesity advocacy group -- OAC -- and see what their take is on getting treatment in areas like ours where the level of Medicaid compensation has made this particular surgery out of reach.
I believe hope is still very much alive.
Onward!

Yes it is sad but true...Dr. Ordoyne is a great guy I know this for sure but I mean one Dr can not take all the medicaid cases there is...I have always had insurance but ofcourse not that would cover the surgery. I can't even believe I am at the point in my life that I am....not being able to work and even being on Medicaid...I am not ashamed to ask for assistance but you all would just have to know me before obesity took control of me and my life. Thanks for all the advice and prayers...No I will never give up I am a fighter for sure but it is just so depressing ya know.

Kisha are you on disability if you are when you reach two years on it you will get medicare and if will cover it and you can go to Dr. Richardson at Ochner's in New Orleans. If you are not on disabilty I would try to get on it for the Obesity, I did and March made two years on it and I got Medicare and had surgery in May but did most of my preop test and stuff on medicaid with another doc. I talked to the RN coornadotor at Dr. Thomas in Marrero today and they don't take medicaid anymore because the aftercare does not get paid for and they don't get much money on the surgery itself. Good Luck with your adventure it will be worth whatever you can do on your own for when you can have the surgery.
Not only is it difficult to find someone who will take the Medicaid, but Medicare is not walk in the park either. I have Medicare (Part A only) and I am having the duodenal switch, but I am having to go to Denton, TX to have it done. Of course, the DS is a different surgery from the RNY. With the RNY it is easier to find a doctor, but to find one that uses a Center of Excellence is the tricky part. If you go in the direction of Lafayette, the hospital there doesn't accept Medicare patients from the Baton Rouge, New Orleans area. Dosen't make sense to me but that is what I was told by the doctor's office and the hospital itself.
Another thing is finding a doctor who will take you as a patient. In calling a lot of the WL surgeons are booked. I know that Dr. Clark Warden in Covington is booked up until July of next year.
As WLS become more common finding surgeons in that speciality is becoming increasingly more difficult.
