Hair Loss
Hello There-
I am 5 months post op, lost 80 lbs so far and my hair is really falling out. Still have alot of problems with meat. I can do the seafood, scrambled egg, cheese, milk, peanut butter, beans, but no other kind of meat. I tried other kinds of veggie burgers and all but I got sick. Any ideas you guys can help me with to help stop my hair from falling out so bad I would appreciate you advise. Thanks.

My daughter 2 yrs out and my husband 9 months out both had hair loss at about 5months out. They both increased their intake of protein and it has helped...both have no hair loss now...be sure to get in your protein first then the other foods. We have found turkey burgers are great source of protein, 32 grams per burger, and grilled are very juciy. They come pre formed fresh or just fresh ground in a package in the fresh meat section of the grocery.
Both of them hand RNY and just a couple of weeks after paying close attention to the amount of protein they have each day the hair stopped falling out. My daughter makes sure she gets in at the least 60grams of protein daily and my husband is 6'2' and gets in about 80 grams daily.
Protein is the magic ...more energy, stops hair loss and a healer! I believe in the protein, even for non surgery bodies. Anyone I know going to have gastric surgery I tell them to increase the protein prior to surgery for healing....really any surgery it would help!
My daughter also used horse shampoo, dont know if that helps..but I know in the 90's it was a fad for the teenagers to use horse shampoo to help their hair grow! Try it..it surely would not hurt.
Good luck
You sound like you are really keeping on top of your protein, and that's great. I think the hair loss issue is something that you just go through. I might be inclined, if it is just an AWFUL amount, to visit my doctor just to make sure nothing is really going wrong. For me, it was explained by a very kind nurse that the hair loss issue may be partially due to lack of certain vitamins. However, it was her experience that the hair loss could very well be just your bodies response to a major surgery. She has seen patients with other types of major surgeries go through the same thing. It might just be a thing you have to wait out. My thinning began around 4 months and continued for almost 6 months..........then the thinning slowed and my hairdressor now loves to point out my shorter new growth hairs when she does my hair. Congrat's on the 80lbs..........keep up with the protein and b vitamins............and if you are really concerned, speak to your physician........later!
Increase your protein...that is a must. I never had serious issues with hairloss but I was also getting in more than the recommended amount of protien. I also took Biotin. I don't know if it helped but have read many posts on it so I decided to try it too. My daughter's hair was very thin(not due to WLS but coloring it too much) and she started taking it too and it is now much thicker.
As far as the meat give it a little more time. One good think seafood is high in protein. I can't eat seafood so I had a hard time in the begining with meat since I could not add red meat into my diet until I think 6months maybe 8.
