Anyone know which doctors accept ChampVA insurance in Baton Rouge?

I have ChampVA insurance from VA - my husband was 100% service-connected disabled from Viet Nam. ChampVA will pay for my lap band surgery, but the only doc I can find who accepts ChampVA is Dr. Chung in Lake Charles. I don't think that the insurance company's "allowable" rate is enough to satisfy the other docs I've spoken to. I know that Dr. Chung is very good, but I am in Baton Rouge and would really like to have the surgery and aftercare a little closer to home if possible. Our Lady of the Lake will accept ChampVA but LeBlanc and Hausmann don't. Neither does anyone at Vista. Any ideas? Thanks.

Will Champ VA take LeBlanc and Hausmann as "out of network" charges. It's not 80 percent coverage, but it might be 70 percent. Considering the Lake will be in-network, that 10 percent more of just the doctor's charges might not be a bad hit. Please forgive me if this isn't an option also. Good luck, Frances

Thanks, Frances. I really want someone who accepts the insurance. It's just too much without it.

Im pretty sure that Ochsner in New Orleans accepts ChampVA and I know they do the LapBand.  I know they accept TriCare because that is what I have and I am having my RNY surgery on Sept 5th.

You're right - if they accept one, they usually accept the other. I just emailed them to find out if they do bariatric surgery at their BR facility, but I don't think they do. At least NO would be a little closer than Lake Charles. Who's your doctor at Ochsner?

Dr. William Richardson, he is very nice and very informitive. go to Ochsner.net and you can find out about him and the program there. You will have to attend a seminar before you can schedule an appt with him and I recommend you do this as soon as possible as his surgery dates and appt dates fill up fast.
