Hi everyone,   Where are all the men who have had Lap-Band surgery?  I am here in Louisiana and was banded on 5/17/07.  I have not had a fill yet and I am strugling with hunger.  I go to the doctor next tuesday and I will be filled then.      I sure hope it gives me some restriction so I am not so hungry all the time.  How are you all doing?  This goes for you Ladies also.  Let me know how you all were doing at 18 days post op.  Take care and God bless all of us.

HEY! At 18 days post op I was starving! All my parts were getting back to normal and it was just after New Years, the holidays and the surgery were over. It was a major wake-up call that life with the band was not the magic bullet. One thing that really helped me was to do low-carb, whether it was whey protein shakes, eggs, baked fauxtato soup, anything lo-carb that wasnt too heavy. Keeping the carbs out of my system really slowed down the hunger, but mostly it was head hunger and looking for things to pop in my mouth that was the big problem. I just WANTED to eat constantly. I still struggle with that, but not nearly as bad. Just off and on.  My first two restrictions were pretty disappointing, but I have great restriction now. I have lost 50 lbs, my six month banded date is next week. I am trying to accept that it will just be a slow loss process, and the scale is sliding down and not up.  Just bear in mind that you have made a life-changing decision and it takes some time to change your body, mind and spirit from the way you were, becoming the new person you are destined to be. You made the first step of many and you will succeeeeeeed! Congrats and hang on! CJ

Why did you have a lap band?  It does not reduce hunger.

When you have the Lap-Band put on it makes your stomach pouch smaller.  The ultimate goal is to get your stomach to the ideal size (with fills of saline into the band) so that the small amout that you eat and that fills the new smaller stomach pouch will keep you from feeling hungery all the time.  One of the things that helps you feel full longer is that you are not supposed to drink anything right before, during or for an hour after you eat a meal.  The reasoning for this is that drinking will flush out any food that is in th pouch making you feel empty again to soon.  I have not had a fill yet (I was banded on  17 May 07, so there is no saline in the band to restrict  the amount I can eat.  The head hunger is mostly just a habit I think.    I will have my first fill on Tuesday the 12th.  They say most peopole have at lest a few fills to get the to the right place.  Keep up your research and good luck to you.
