Hungry in Gretna
Hi,
Lap-band on 5/17/07. First doctor apt. this tuesday. I am having some trouble with being tired and head hunger. I also sometimes think "Why did I do this?" These forums do help though. At least I know that I am not the only one having these thoughts and problems. Anyone else who has Dr. Treen as their doctor? I tried on some cloths today that haven't fit in years and low and behold some fit and some almost fit. It is really hard in my house because food is so abundent because two of our adult children are stil here as a result of Katrina and my mother-in-lae also lives with us. My son works nights so when he comes home at 6or 7 AM he cooks himself dinner. Stake baked potatoes, salad. The small really nget to me. I hope it will get easier when I have a filol. I thought the satisfied feeling would be from the beginning, right when the band was put in. Maybe it is just this head hunger but then no one said anything about that and it isn't in any of the literature I received. How have you all been doing?
The body sends messages and sometimes it's just easy to define them all as "hunger" and then "head hunger" takes on new and various meanings.
Here are some things that help me with hunger:
Hot, soothing liquids -- when I was on liquids, I made sure I mixed it up and had steaming hot chocolate made with SF Nestle's Quick and skim milk. Being hungry and then drinking cold liquids isn't very comforting, but hot drinks and soups are soothing.
Bump up the taste -- Diet food used to be such a chore because it was always bland and tasteless. Look for ways to "engage" your senses that don't add calories. Herbs and spices will add flavor to your meal without adding salt, fat or extra calories. There's plain broiled fish and then there's fish socked in lemon and covered with dill -- big difference. I use more cilantro, dill, crushed red pepper than I did before.
Water, water, water - Thrist will seem like hunger at times. I try to drink at least 100 ounces of water a day and I enjoy crushed ice in water. The crushed ice helps with the "nervous" need to chew something without added any calories.
I hope this helps.
Onward!
Frances
