Wondering if anyone can help with there experience. I had my 3rd fill 3 days ago, and still feel very little restriction. I have only lost 12 pounds, since surgery on 2/1. A ltitle frusterated, does it take a couple of days for fill to kick in? Any advise would help. Thanks

Hi Maria, your weight loss may be right on target depending what your starting weight is. The lap band shoots for an average weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week and if you lost 8 pounds in two months, you would be right in the middle of target. I do know people who lost twice as much in that period of time (namely me), but weighing 350 pounds makes the initial weight loss figures seem like a tremendous accomplishment. Actually, I just had more to lose, but I was still losing the same "percentage" of excess weight as smaller patients. Fills are a trial and error process. I strongly advise not rushing them because being too tight can make one's weight loss stall just as being too loose. It is not unusual for some folks to get 3-5 fills before feeling adequate restriction. That golden number is different for everyone, so many doctors take it slow. If you feel "something" this early on and you are losing, I encourage you to stay the course and follow your doctor's progressions for fills. Also, congrats on the 12 pounds. These numbers really can't be compared fairly and every pound is a success. Onward! Frances

Maria I am only 4 days post op so I really can't answer the whole fill thing, but what I can say just from knowing a few things about weight loss is don't just look at the pounds, look at the way your clothes are fitting, look at if you feel a little more energetic, look at the silent weight loss measures. Some people loose weight faster than others without LapBand, and some loose inches. My Dr's assistant said it depends on how much of it is fat, how much is water and how much muscle mass you have. And just because we are over weight does not mean we do not have muscles. So don't get discouraged or anything negative, just look at the silent weight loss measures.
