Well it seems a few of us are starting to over eat and gain a few pounds,, or more than a few if your me,,, Don't know if anyone else is having some prob's but if so I would love some advice on how your getting through it, and what is helping.. I don't seem to know where to start? I know some people say go back to the basic's and drink protein and all, but YEA RIGHT,,lol,, don't know bout yall but doesn't seem too much like a option to me,, I mean I think I would get homicidial if I had to do that,,, lol.. Sorry if that seems drastic to some!!! Well hope everyone else is doing good. I am hoping to join a gym soon and start working out I am sure that will help alot, so if anyone wants to come join and workout let me know! Could use some workout buddies!

Hi Ashleigh, big sister-angel is always there to share your delimmas -- well most of them. WLS helped me get out of the 300s, but it seems that exercise will be the key to staying on track now that I'm much more mobile than before. My tool works on restriction, but there's too much stress in my life for me to use it to its fullest. Daily exercise and zoning out with music is helping me deal with the stress and at least raise my metabolism without having to drink protein drinks or lower my food intake. Please know that you are not alone and I too wish our schedules allowed us to be there for each other more. Let's keep trying! Fran

Ashleigh, I still drink 3 protein shakes every day. I love my shakes. I think they really help me not to feel hunger or overeat. Also working out at a gym really does help. Once you get into a habit of going to the gym, you will become addicted to working out. I am actually sorry that my gym is closed today for Easter. Take care. I haven't gained any weight, I still maintain between 122-125. I have found that I am eating more and snacking more and that does scare me. Sometimes I find I have finished eating a handful of chips before I even realize what I am doing. I found at Walmart they have apples that are cut up into slices. I have been buying them an snack on them, keeps me away from the chips. I discovered Lays Kettle cooked jaelepeno chips and they are my down fall. At least I don't eat the whole bag like I use to. When I do snack on chips I do put them in a small bowl and I don't eat right out of the bag. That gives me a little control in the amount that I eat. I know we are told not to weigh everyday but I do. If I see the scale shoot up to 126 I will really watch my intake. This is keeping me in control. I know in the past if I didn't see it on the scale I didn't think I was gaining, you know that out of sight out of mind game. That is how I got up to 220 in the first place and I don't want that to ever happen again.

I agree with you about weighing everyday. I have weighed everyday since surgery and I track it on fitday.com. It really keeps me focused. Lynn J.

Well, my stomach is still stretching because I'm not yet 9 months out, but I do get a little freaked out at how much I can eat. The other day, I ate a whole Caesar salad and panicked. But then I realized that I had just a little parmesan cheese on it and no other protein, so it wasn't really that bad. This month's OH magazine has a piece by Dr. Terry Simpson on stomach capacity after WLS. He writes, "A study done with successful RNY patients showed that the pouches were eight to ten ounces after a year, but the stretching did not affect weight loss or the ability to maintain a lower weight." That sounds like a lot, but just remember that a normal stomach has a 40-50 ounce, or 2 liter, capacity, and our pre-surgery stomachs were even bigger. So, looking at the big picture, you're probably eating a normal amount. It's probably just a matter of what you're eating. Stick to your lean proteins and try to keep your diet low in carbs, and you should do just fine.

Hi I am new to this forum, I had gastric bypass 18 months ago. I lost 128 pounds. I too found myself concerned about gaining weight. A friend pointed out that I had been exercising and muscle weighs more than fat. Once I took the measurements I realized the inches I lost. I weighed over 300 pounds before my surgery. I was in a size 28 pants and now in a size 12. I used to teach nutrition classes at my TOPS support group, therefore I have all the knowledge I need to know about what to eat and not eat. I was told to always fill up on protein first, veggies second, then if still hungry to eat fruit and carbs last. Now I NEVER GET HUNGRY, but I find I have the need to chew. I started snacking on Cheetos. I buy the little one ounce bags. I limit myself to one bag before noon and one in the afternoon. By having the small bags, once it is empty, I am done. I find drinking cold water or making a milkshake (milk, sugar free chocolate syrup, splenda & ice in a blender) this is filling and keeps me from hunting for things I should not have. Good luck, Harry's sweetheart for 32 years! getting skinny again.
