So I have lost a amazing amount of weight and am soo happy, any medical problems I had before or was close to getting are totally gone,, EXCEPT one,, Well when I was overweight I had alot of trouble with my right knee( don't know why only that one) and I used to get some kind of shots in it ( I know kat,, I should know what they are but I don't!!! lol) I think it was some kind of steriod,, anyway,, since my surgery, I haven't had one problem,, NOT even a slight discomfort,, until recently, about 2 weeks ago it started hurting again, BAD,, I thought maybe I just walked wrong on it,, so I rested it and it went away,, well all this week the pain has gotten worse and worse, and I knew something wasn't right, I know it was my knee problems coming back,, I haven't been working so it can't be tired!!! lol,, and the past few days I have woken up to it so sore I am limbing around the yard. Today it has gotten so bad I have ice'd it ALL day and can now exactly pinpoint the burning, tearing, undescribable pain. I am worried my knee pain is coming back,,, I have heard MANY people say after WLS they have to have knee replacements,, NOOOOOOOOOO,, That scares the **** out of me,, I mean somehow moving my organs around didn't scare me but knee surgery does,, What can I do?? Anyone know alot about this,, OBVIOUSLY I know go to the doctor, but I am struggling with insurance right now,, So just trying to get to the source of it, so I only have to go to one doctor and not twenty when I finally do,, THANKS!!!

I've known a lot of people that needed artheroscopic surgery of the knee to repair ligaments and such... and from what they tell me... I'll wait till I need the whole knee replacement. UGH. struggling with insurance? You probably were getting steroid injections to decrease the inflammation. Definitely go to the doc, it could just be a small matter of inflammation and not something that needs surgery yet.

Ashleigh, I know the shots well. I had a doctor about 8 years back and was telling her about my knee issues and the answers the orthos always gave me -- lose weight. Her reply to them was -- what if you lose the weight and your knees still hurt. I'm about 6 weeks post-op and now that I've added weights to my workout programs and after doing leg extensions and leg curls some pain does return to my knees and I'm praying that its only the soreness from the exercises -- we shall see. Oh they are called cortizone shots. I've had at least 2 prior to my WLS surgery. I've always had problems with my left knee since I was 12 -- supposedly a weak quad muscle not holding the knee in place. We shall see. Hope you win with the insurance company.

Hi there. Sorry about the knee problems. I'm having surgery at Ochsner on May 23. About 4 weeks ago, I slipped in my bathroom and tore the ligament in my right knee. My knees have always ached because of the extra weight, but this torn ligament is horrible. I don't need surgery, but the pain is truly evil. Good luck to you. Sorry about your insurance problems. Insurance companies can be evil too

Ugh, so sorry about your knee problems. I have a knee that has been making strange gurgling noises every so often for the past 10 years, but it's not that much of a problem. My biggest issue is my lower back, which has been in pain since I was a teenager. The more weight I gained, the worse it got, yet losing weight didn't make the pain go away. However, working out on the back machine at the gym has helped tremendously. For the past few weeks, while I was going through that miscarriage, I wasn't working out. Let me tell you, I could feel it in my back! So, my advice to you is to see an ortho and get in touch with a physical therapist or at least a personal trainer to help devise an exercise plan to address your knee issues. Good luck!
