African Americans
Hey everybody, I am looking for African Americans who has had success with the Lap Band. Nothing against anybody else, so don't anybody start to act ridiculous. It's just that it's kind of hard getting some people I know who need this surgery to even think about it. I think we all know that we as African Americans don't see the Dr. or take care of ourselves enough. So I am looking for African American Success Stories.
Hi Dee Dee,
Try this forum. OH, has so many different forums and I figured they might have one for African Americans. Hope this will help you out.
I am glad to see you say you want to take care of yourself. Even though I had the GBS, it was the best thing I could have ever done for myself.
Good luck in your journey and I hope this forum helps with the questions you may have.

Hey, Dee Dee:
Congrats! I had my surgery done by Dr. Moore's husband. They have some support group info at their office. Interestingly enough, the first three people I met when I was going for my consult, follow-up, etc. were African-American women who had just had the lap band. One of them in particular was doing phenomenally well, she went to work the day after surgery and had lost 40 lbs at three months. Check out the support group info the next time you are at Dr. Moore's office. I dont know that there are or not African-Americans or what the make-up of the group is, but it is worth checking out, and I need to go too!
Good luck!!

Most definitely. I am due back in one week after my surgery. I will definitely be checking out the support group. I am excited. I met Dr. Moore only once but was very excited with her and mannerisms with me, which is very important. My main concern is when can I drive. I want to go to Gulfport that Saturday.
