I have just learned that my gastric bypass surgery is approved by my insurance Tricare Prime for Feb. 21st, 2007. Is there anyone who has Tricare Prime that has had the surgery and did the insurance cover all of the costs? If not, what did it not cover?

I have Tricare Standard. Therefore I have a deductable to meet each year. The total out of pocket cost for my surgery, including pre op testing and psych evals was about $3,000.00. I am not sure what the costs are with Prime, but you can check on the Tricare website. Copy and paste the link to your browser. http://www.mytricare.com/internet/tric/tri/tricare.nsf Cindee

Thanks for your reply Cindee, I had my Psych Eval and Cardio today which I passed no problem. I have my Endo on the 9th and my surgery is scheduled on the 21st. Can you tell me where I can get information about the diet after surgery. My Docs nurse told me today that it will be clear liquids for 2 weeks and then semi-clear for 4 weeks. Any ideas? Valarie

Yes I had the surgery done on Sept 1. Tricare covered pretty much everything except the assistant fees which thru the doctor I had only paid 300.00 out of my pocket and I have tricare prime.

Tracy, Thanks for your reply. How are you doing since your surgery? I passed my Psych and Cardio Evals today and all I have left is the Endo appointment on the 9th before my surgery on the 21st. I am concerned about the diet and was wondering if you could share info on what your diet after surgery was like and what is it like now. Valarie

That's great -- everything looks like it's going exactly according to plan. You must be so excited! I remember seeing the Rayne exit on the I-10. When my family and I were trying to return to the NO area after Katrina, we briefly stayed at a motel in Crowley, so I've passed by your hometown several times. Since you're a patient of Dr. Barnes, I assume you live in the Shreveport area, right? I hear there are some really good support groups in that area, and I hope you can make it to some meetings. It's really helpful to get advice from people at various stages along this journey, and it's especially nice to get to meet such people in person. Best of luck throughout your journey. Keep us posted on your progress! Take care, Nowal
