I had surgery nov 17, I've only lost 15lbs and I lost that the first 3weeks after surgery. I had a fill on jan 10, and I still fill no restriction. I can eat pretty much anything and probaly 3/4 what I was eating. My bmi was 37. Has anyone had to turn right around and go for another fill or should I wait longer.

Hi Paula, Congratulations on having the surgery. I suggest that you go to the tab above labeled forums.. choose lap band & ask the question there. Wish I could be of more help but I had the RYN. Good luck!

Hi Paula, Fills should be a slow process as we inch our way toward the adequate level of restriction. Too much can be a huge problem, so most postops need 3-4 fills before they feel adequate restriction. You describe a weight loss in the range of the average weight loss after the band -- 1-2 pounds a week. On top of that, you started at a BMI lower than 40 and one can not expect the same type of results at that weight. I know it's a lot and a health hazard, but those weighing more will lose at a faster rate -- even though you might be losing the same percentage of excess weight. Not feeling a big difference after one fill is about right. Not having food interances at this point is also right on mark. When all goes well, you should eat smaller portions, but being able to eat "anything" is not a sign that something is wrong. Some will disagree with me, but I strong believe in the health benefits of a slow rise in restriction. I think you should at least work with the fill for 4 weeks before going to to next level. I have been too tight and there are no benefits to that situation. I hope you stay the course and be patient with the process. Avoiding side effects and rapid weight loss are really worth the effort. I'm on the lap band board a lot, but I'm here pretty often also and I'll be looking for your name if you need support. Also, feel free to PM me if you would like. Onward! Frances
