Hey, Mike! Glad you're back home and doing well. I know what you mean about the gas -- that was my biggest issue after surgery too. All I can say is try to get up and move around as much as you can, so that the gas and all the goop in your system can make its way out. As for going out to eat... GO! It's not the food that matters, but the time you spend with your friends and family. Granted, you're not going to get your money's worth, but think of it this way: had you not had the surgery, you'd be spending the money anyway while still getting the health risks of restaurant food. Anyway, I don't know what your surgeon's guidelines are for what you can eat, but there actually are lots of restaurant items that you can have. Applebee's has a French onion soup that you can probably have (if you can't have solids yet, you might need to omit the crouton and pick out the onions). Refried beans are usually a good choice at Mexican restaurants. The Olive Garden has a cheese appetizer that's basically melted cheese and Alfredo sauce, so you might be OK with that, too. If you're on soft foods, you can probably try crab claw appetizers, or perhaps steamed crab legs from Red Lobster. And every restaurant has some sort of chicken dish that you can chew to a pulp. And if you should have leftovers, you can always ask for a to-go box. Best of luck with your recovery!

Hey Mike, Glad you are home and doing well. Walking is the best thing for the gas. Make sure you are taking in enough water too, at least 64 oz a day! That being said, Be sure that you follow your doctor's protocol for what foods to eat and when to start eating them. Every doctor is different, so be sure that you are clear on what your doctor wants for YOU. What is right for someone else is not always right for you. I never had a problem ( and still don't ) going out to eat. I would just take something with me or order what I knew I was allowed to have off the menu. Good luck with everything. Cindee

Congrats, Mr. Mike! So proud of you. Welcome to the losing side of life. Soon the pounds are going to melt away and the hidden you will be revealed! It is an awesome feeling, almost as wonderful as standing at the top of the Grand Canyon for the first time. Unbelievable!!!! Enjoy! Peggy B.
