:-S Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. Just starting out on my journey toward Gastric Bypass. I am searching for a provider in my network- United Healthcare- that performs surgery at a United HealthCare hospital. I have located Dr.Scott- and the hospital is Tulane in New Orleans. Has anyone had surgery performed by Dr.Scott or knows someone who has had surgery performed by him? Any info about Tulane will be helpful.

I was under the impression that Dr. Scott did not return to New Orleans after Katrina and was practicing in Florida. You may want to contact Tulane to see if their Bariatric program rebounded post-K. Not all listed programs have resumed in New Orleans. The one listed above, The Lavin Group -- whywait.com, has expanded and is stronger than ever. I wish you well. Frances

Did you actually find where he is now? According to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, he does not have a license to practice in LA right now. I would assume that he's left the state. He is not listed in Tulane's directory. I just had Lap RNY with Dr. Lavin 2 weeks ago today and I'm doing fantastic. You may want to check their site http://www.whyweight.com. The staff has been wonderful through the entire thing. Good Luck, Angela

:-$ You guys are correct, Dr.Scott is no longer in NO. At the time of the posting I thought I had left a message at his office. Only to find out the next day he is out of the area. N.O.does not have a bariatric surgery practice at this time. My search has brought me to Dr.Lavin in Covington. I spoke to his office today and they are sending a letter to UHC for approval of in network benefits (he is not a United HealthCare provider). He does go to a hospital that is in my network- so yea to that. Thanks everyone for the info..Who has experience with the group in Covington?

Angela, Dr. Lavin did my lap RNY on 9/29/04. I think he is the best and I have had no complications. I don't go to the Covington office, I go to the Metairie office. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck! Lynn J., lap RNY 9/29/04 5'4" 306/146/135

Angela, You might check into Ochsner's program. I've worked with Dr Richardson (as a nurse) on his postop patients, and I hope to have my RNY with him. Last May he did my gallbladder resection (it couldn't wait for the RNY too) and I was shopping in Wal-Mart just hours after my outpatient surgery As for Dr. Lavin, I don't know him professionally.... but I've heard outstanding things about him from other nurses and many of his patients. So I don't think you would go wrong if you chose him. Good Luck, choosing a surgeon is a deeply personal decision and I wish you the best of success in your journey.

Dr. Ruary O'Connell is located at Touro in New Orleans. He did my RNY in Aug. 2005 pre-Katrina at Methodist Memorial in New Orleans East but that Hospital is closed. My PDA is dead so I don't have the exact website but it has Renew in it. I don't know about the ins. I have Anthemn BC and my husband just had a hernia repair a few months ago at Touro. If you're interested email me and I'll get you the exact contact info. Anne 254/157/1??

I'm not absolutely sure but I think Ochsner Hospital is United approved. I had my surgery there by Dr. Richardson and think he is an excellent surgeon. You might want to check into Ochsner. Good luck.
