United Healthcare - Ascension Parish School Board

Does anyone know how to get an insurance to pay for this surgery - my insurance is United Healthcare through the Ascension Parish School Board and they say no! HELP!

:-) Hey Carla, I too have UHC and it's not that they will not cover the surgery. First your group must cover the surgery. If that is the case, then UHC has guidelines for coverage. Ask a UHC customer service rep for the medical policy for Bariatric Surgery. It has the guidelines for coverage such as, you must be clinically severe obese - BMI greater than 40 or 35 w/comorbid conditions. I am just starting my journey toward gastric bypass. So, I have not been approved it, but I knew UHC would have set requirementss. My background is medical insurance billing. I am familiar with the coverage issue on both sides- from a provider and patient. Hope this helps.
