Tread lightly! I was never sensitive before surgery. However, after surgery, when I tried some SF frozen yogurt that had sugar alcohols in it, by the time I had half a cup, I could hardly contain myself -- if you know what I mean. Now, every couple days I'll have something with a few grams of sugar alcohol without horrible results. In fact, it kind of keeps me regular. The bottom line for me is that sugar alcohols will induce a BM, and if the number of grams is in the double digits, it will induce a BM immediately. So you might want to experiment a bit to find out how you react and what your threshold is. Good luck!

hi Tracy, i treat sugar alcholols the same of sugar, because everytime i eat sugar alcholol it would slow my weight loss, plus if you check your blood sugar soon after eating stuff with sugar alcholol, it goes up , just as if you ate sugar, don't shy away from the sugar free stuff, just go slow, i will look it up on the net, i will and let you know what i find out. rhonda

I agree. Nothing is off limits, but everything is in moderation. For me, I DID NOT want anything with sugar in it for the first 6 months. Everything tasted very, very sweet. Even now, I have trouble with sugary things. I'd snack on protein such as peanuts or peanut butter instead of sugary things. You have a very distinct 6 month window when you are not really hungry for anything specific and nothing really tastes all that great, so take advantage of it and eat healthy - PROTEIN!

hi tracy, me again, i looked up the alcholol, sugar, roughly in a nut shell, you count half as carbs , because your body absorbs about half of the sugar alcholols, and if you eat alot, it will give you diarrhea due to , to much for body to digest at one time, and it only digest about half of what you eat, so read on, and eat on,,,, rhonda

Tracy: I actually have a better time handling sugar than I do sugar alcohols. I had to quit eating the sf candies because even with just a single serving size (about 3 pieces), I would get horrible gas and gas pains. I can't eat the low carb protein bars any more because of the sugar alcohols. I used to eat one as a meal replacement at work to help get my protein in, but had to quit because the gas from the sugar alcohols was embarassing. I would try them maybe a piece or two at a time and then work up to a serving size and see how your body handles it. Cathy
