cottage cheese, grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs. no sugar added fudgecicles. Fruit is alot of carbs, even tho its good carbs, it could make you dump this early out. I would stay away from it for a few more weeks. Cindee

You can have sugar-free yogurt, sugar-free pudding, low fat cream soups. It's all in the Gastric BypassPost-Op Diet book they gave you before your surgery. I printed one out from their website and them Marcie gave me one at my last visit.

Hey there! First of all, I am sooooo happy to see so many of our patients active on this forum. I love it! Secondly, I figure that it is okay for me to give advice on this question, since you are our patient, after all! My favorite things in those first two weeks were salty things. I snacked on peanut butter on a spoon (low sugar PB), lots of egg drop soup, scrambled eggbeaters with cheese and chives. Also, at the grocery store, in the instant mashed potato section, there is a brand of instant mashed potato that is called "loaded" mashed potato. It has cheese, chives, bacon bits and sour cream already in it. You just add water. I would put about 3 tbsp of the flakes in a small tupperware dish and carry about 3-4 of those dishes around with me. When hungry, just add 1/2 cup of water, microwave and it's an instant meal. Also, it's okay to try anything liquid as long as you follow these two rules that I know y'all are tired of hearing from me: 1. It has to be able to fit through a straw (not eat through a straw, but that consistency). 2. Under 8g of sugar per serving. Try new things, even if not in the book. You can mess it up as long as those two rules are obeyed. The worst that would happen is you will throw up, which isn't fun, but it's not the end of the world. I learn more from my mess ups with bad foods than anything else!

I've seen the loaded mashed potatoes you mentioned. That will be a great idea for my lunch when I go back to work. What brand of peanut butter did you buy?

I don't remember the brand name, since it has been almost 10 months since my surgery. I can eat the regular kind now. But, I remember at the time, I had to buy it in the diabetic section. Most grocery stores have those. I am not sure of the commisary. You may have to buy it when you are in Lake Charles sometime. It's a great way to sneak in protein and when you eat it off of a spoon, it paces you automatically. Nice little trick.

I'm with most everyone else, mashed potatos were great. Add a little sour cream and cheese....and HELLO...especially on the semi-solid stage. Cottage cheese with some pureed fruit was also really good to me. Good luck..................and oh, thanks Marcie for all your help from Lake Charles...............I've learned a lot about my surgery from your postings. I'm afraid I wasn't a patient of Dr. Chung.........but your help has been so appreciated!

NO problem! I'm around on the forum, learning myself, almost daily. So, if there are any questions I can help with from a Coordinators' or a patient's standpoint, I'm around. But, of course, my advice is only that of a standpoint from our office. Always consult your own Surgeon's office for specific guidelines.

I had to do liquids for 6 weeks. I was on a strict diet afterwards (per my surgeon/dietician). Then after that I did start eating on some mashed potatoes, eggs, soft cooked carrots, different kinds of beans, soups with no rice/noodles, crackers, sweedish meatballs and stuff like that. At that time I still wasn't eaeting fruits. I started eating some fruits (apples and banana's) at about 3 months out. I still don't eat many fruits. I have eaten quite a bit of watermelon though. Oh and have eaten some strawberries with splenda. Hope this helps!!! Christie
