you should already be taking your chewable vitamins. Are you sure you feel hungry and its not just "head hunger"? Drink more fluids, that should help. My Nut said 80grms of protein per day. at you stage I was lucky to get in 30. fluids are more important right now, you can work on the protein later. Cindee

1. I started taking a Women's One a Day since last month just to get in the habit of taking vitamin every day. 2. You may be thristy. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger. 3. The book says to aim for 50-60 grams of protein a day at this stage.

Hi Tracy! 1. Start vitamins at two weeks postop, when you start Stage IV diet. That way, you will be eating chicken and fish and the vitamins shouldn't bother your stomach. I recommend whatever off brand vitamin you like. The only time I have seen deficiencies in patients labs postoperatively is when they take Flintstones. You don't have to get chewable. I swallow mine just fine (Women's One-a-Day) and the best part is that this brand has added Calcium so I don't have to take an additional supplement. 2. It's mental. It will go away. Takes about 2 months. I had that same feeling. I was hungry in the first week. 3. Don't worry too much about protein while on liquids. Once you start chicken and fish next week, you will be able to get in a good 50-60 grams per day. You have enough protein store to keep you healthy until then. And, yes, it's in the books, but our books are only guidelines. Your best ally are patients who have been through it. I wrote the books and after going through the surgery myself, I can tell you - THEY DO NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE!!!

That's good to know about the protein. I was a little worried about how I was going to be able to get all in that protein those first weeks. 50-60 grams seems like a lot to get from liquids and soft foods! I feel better now.

I took my vitamins before and after surgery I never stopped. I did go to my obgyn and get chewable prenatals, called Nutrinate and they don't taste to bad either. That is the best thing you could take. It's probably head hunger. My doc says 80 grams of protein. Tina

After my surgery: 1. The day I came home, Flinstones chewables, two a day. 2. I felt hungry just for about the first week. It's a head game. 3. Per my dietician said I was supposed to drink 90 grams a day. I would check with your dietician to answer that question. I relied a lot on my dietician. I would call her anytime of the day if I had questions. Plus at a week post op I had to go back to my surgeon and the dietician. Each time I seen my surgeon, I had to see her too. Good Luck
