Hello, I never noticed when I was so heavy about pain in my hips or thigh area. I have noticed since I have lost so much weight that my butt hurts at times to sit, when I stand from a sitting position and start to walk my hip bones hurt and the inner part of my thighs hurt. Is this from the weight I have lost? I am curious........ I also tend to have my stomach muscles go numb. I am walking more and I try to walk with my stomach sucked in. Any help or advice? Labs are great also..........

Yes! I had them. And back spasms due to two hernias we "found" during a exam for skin removal. I had some new clumsiness when walking. The orthopedic dr. told me it was a shift in the center of gravity following weight loss. It does get better. I had a huge belly. I have lost about 250 pounds. and 10 lbs of skin removed from belly pannis. I don't know about you but LOL my butt had a LOT more padding before WLS. I had some arthritis before WLS and some bone loss. It would not hurt to have a bone dr. check you out. Have you had a bone density test done? My drs, wife had WLS, and he thinks we should at least have a baseline done soon before or after WLS. Stomach muscles going numb may be neropathy from the lengthy surgical procedure . I was warned of this prior to WLS. I had no problems w/ WLS but when I had hernia repair and skin removal done three fingers on both hands have been numb for a year now. THEY ARE GETTING BETTER. At first I could hardly type. My arms would go to sleep from the elbows to fingertips. At night mostly. Seek help from medically trained ... glenda

OK, how do you know you have a hernia? I am curious with this? I tend to stay cold since my surgery. I do know that times my fingers feel numb and cold. I figured it is because of my weight loss. My husband complains about me being cold and I turn the AC up and he says I should stay covered. Well, I was wondering how far post op you are. Is a belly pani the same as a TT? Don't you have to be a certain age in order to have the Bone Density test? Would love to know that. OK, Talk to you later. Elizabeth

Hello, Elizabeth! Just about everyone who has WLS is cold after surgery. I have to put on an extra blanket on my side of the bed because my feet get chilled easily. Dreading this winter! As for a hernia, I have one. I discovered it when I was exercising. I'd do stomach crunches and an alien would stick out of my stomach. Come to find out, the stomach lining had pulled away from my incision. This last office visit, Dr. Shimer helped me feel it. Feels gross! Wish I'd passed on that one!!! Now there are different kinds of hernias. This is just my particular case. I go in for surgery on September 1st to have it fixed. I am so ready. It doesn't hurt but it is aggravating to have this thing sticking out of my belly. I'm ready to wear pants with comfort. Right now, I have to leave the snap and a little bit of the zipper unzipped because of the pooch! I wear a support most of the time but when the temperatures soar as they have over the past few days (almost 100 here in good ole' Louisiana), I leave it off. Anyhow, hope I've helped answer a few of your questions. Peggy B.
