Gall Bladder Surgery Anyone?
I'm 4 months and 2 weeks out from my surgery (138 pounds lost so far) and after a gall baldder ultrasound last week, I find out that I have gall stones. Looks like another operation in my future. The doctor warned me at 2 months that a large majority of patients he's seen lose weight as rapidly as I have develop complications from the gall bladder and it has to be removed. I'm not really having many symptoms yet other than a dull aching lower back pain but I did get curious and look online at some 'alternate' methods for eliminating gall stones without having to get the gallbladder removed.
It involves a regimen of drinking epsom salts (a potent laxative), olive oil and lemon juice. (More info at this link http://www.curezone.com/cleanse/liver/huldas_recipe.asp)
Is this safe for the pouch and has anyone tried anything like this? I know this is a minor surgery but I'll do anything to prevent getting stabbed and cut on again. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to discuss and schedule the surgery and I was planning on bringing the documentation from that website to see what he thinks.
Also, anyone that has had their gallbladder removed care to share a story about the operation?
I never heard of the epsom salt/olive oil/lemon juice thing before. I had my Gall Bladder removed about 3 or so years ago, prior to my WLS. It was nothing, they did it laproscopically, and i was back to work (I managed a fast food rest. at the time) a week later. With my job at the time, I was on my feet for ten hours at a time and lifting stuf up alot. They did restrict my lifting to under ten lbs for about 4 weeks tho. That was the single easiest surgery and recovery I ever went through. Good luck to you!

Chad,
I used to work for general surgeons years ago before I became a teacher. I can tell you that its nothing like our RNY surgery. Its a minor procedure that is done laparoscopically. You go in on one day and are put in an observation room after your procedure and you go home the following morning. Its very common and I doubt there is really anything to worry about. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions at [email protected]

I had my gallbladder removed 13 years ago way before WLS. It was done laproscopically and was so very easy! I'd had a C-section 2 years before and this was nothing near the amount of pain or recovery of this surgery.
Also, as a warning I had the gallstones but didn't have any symptoms until shortly after I'd had a flu and thought it was a relapse. But one of the gallstones blocked my bile duct and caused pancreatitis. THAT was very bad and I almost died so just make sure you stay under doctor's care during whatever treatment you decide upon.

Hi all,
My name is julie but most of the time it's jules. I have had my gallbladder removed 12 after surgery. It simply went babd over night. What my symptoms were I was hurting on my left side like crazy it was almost unbearable. Come to find out when they get me rushed back into the hospital I had not only a bad gallbladder but also pancreatitis also. All she did for me was reopened to existing holes from lap rny and opened them with lap then made two new incisions. I was put back under anthesia to do this procedure when I came out I could move but was still in pain from 2new incisions and the pancreatitis flared up again after they though they treated it. So, all in all i was in the hospital a little over 3 weeks. things happening here and there with potassium levels. But at 4 months out things seem to be heading in the right direction.I hope this helped a little didn't mean to write my whole life story.
Hugs,
Jules
hi, , sounds like the mixture you talk about will possible buy you a short amount of time before you need gallbladder surgery, and also the mixture will probably make you very ill to consume as a gastric bypass pt, It is almost a given, you will need it out after gastric bypass, mine had to be taken out 5months post op, my pain was in my upper back and feeling sick sometimes, if you let it go, it can go into what jules talks about, and it can make you very ill,, trust me get it out with fewer symptoms, before the possibility of complications from waiting . If you have it early in the am, you usually can go home the same evening, if you don't have any major health issues, (perspective as a nurse, and a post op gastric bypass pt) rhonda 298/182/140
