Finally had my surgery, on wednesday. Home on Saturday afternoon. Not feeling very good. Little pain but wondering what in the world I have done. I know it will get better in time, I am trying to walk in the house a lot but all I want to do is sleep. Not hungry at all trying to get in all required liquids. I just pray it gets better, as of now I almost regret having the surgery.

Ivy, What you are feeling is quite normal. I had surgery 25 days ago and I asked myself the same thing at first, "What in the world did you go and do this for???" THe first week all I wanted to do was sleep and get some sort of liquid in my mouth but I became dehydrated. I couldonly get a small amount of liquid in the first week - nowhere near what they had requested I got in. I was on sugar free popsicles, sugar-free jello, broth and water the first week. I couldnt get hardly any of that in -- but the s/f popsicles were great and the key to getting through the first week is to SIP, SIP and then SIP a tad bit more....When you are 7-10 days post-op you will notice your getting in more liquids -- I almost thought that I had stretched my pouch bc I noticed I could take in a significant amount of water in at one time -- I then advanced the following week to continue liquids but to add the protein drinks -- I then advanced at 2 weeks post op to pureed -- I am still at pureed and tomorrow is my onemonth follow up but there is NO WAY I can do pureed right now --I tried last week and I was SEVERELY ill and I swore to myself that I would NOT and COULDNOT do that again -- Just follow your doctors orders, try to exercise but only when your doc says it is okay and keep your chin up, and I PROMISE you in a few months your going to say, "Stephanie was right.... I AM GLAD I did this formyself !!!" Stephanie

Thanks Stephanie, I know you are right, I'm just feeling a little down right now, I didn't really think it would be this bad. And I am sipping, sipping sipping away. Thanks, Ivy

Do you have any pain meds? They really helped me that first week after surgery. In a few months when you dropping the pounds and the pain is gone you will not feel this way. When you start to see the wonderful results it will all be worth it. Just hang in there it gets better. Tina 336/185/155

Whooo hooo! Congratulations on your surgery! I remember you from our pre-op class Ivy! I had my surgery on July 26, and I also was wondering what I had done to myself. It does get better, just give yourself time. If you want to talk, email me and I will send you my phone number. Take care and get plenty of rest! Nonnie

Ivy, Believe me it gets SO much better. The first few weeks you can expect some feeling down but you will lose weight and feel great before very long! I've lost almost 100 pounds and it's a year tomorrow -- I've got to say I DO NOT REGRET IT. It's normal to go through almost a mourning period for a loss of you good friend you could always count on -- FOOD! Remember you have a support network of people who have been through it so use the boards. Anne
