Wow moments come quickly, don't they!
Hi, everyone! I forgot to mention my WOW moment from yesterday.
So, before my consult, when I weighed 303 (and crept up to 306 after my farewell feasts), I had a really tough time getting around on foot. I work at the VA hospital in Biloxi, which has a sprawling campus-type layout, and I often had to travel between buildings that would be completely across campus from each other. I had a lot of calf pain when I walked (claudication), and besides that, I would get really winded. So I usually drove.
Well, yesterday, at 8 days post-op, I decided that I would walk it, since I needed the exercise anyway. To my great surprise, I experienced NO leg cramps and was breathing only a little bit heavier than usual when I was done. I felt like I could even do more walking without getting fatigued!
As much as I wanted to avoid the scale, I just had to find out what was behind this change. It turns out that in addition to the 20 pounds I had lost preop, I lost 15 since surgery. It was amazing that 35 pounds made such a difference! I guess anyone would have a hard time getting around if they had to carry 35 extra pounds, but I guess I just hadn't seen it that way for myself until yesterday.
