My husband's going back to Afghanistan!!!
He was deployed in March but was able to return in May for my surgery. His command had said he could stay back home because they were due back in July. They also figured I needed the help w/my two year old. Welllll, last week I got a phone call from the Family Readiness Group (Family Support) telling me that the unit had been extended!!!! I hung up the phone and told hubby they had just received official word. The next words out of his mouth were, "I'm going back." Sure enough, the next morning he came home from work and said he was deploying again on August 15 or 30th. His commander is trying VERY hard to make it the 30th since he knows of my complications.
I can't really say when he'll be home. Could be 3 months. Could be 6!!!!! I try to think of the positive -- in three months I'll probably drop another 50lbs. Who knows what I'll weigh in six months!
It's harder to have him go back this time. Before it was so abstract that someone would get hurt or killed. Since deploying I know of three soldiers I knew very well who were injured and two who I know of that were killed. It's not so abstract anymore!!!
I'm just going to spend the time he's gone working on losing more weight, being a great mom and maybe visiting some family. I'm hoping he's home in November -- that's our anniversary!! He's tentatively scheduled back for 2 days before that.
Thanks for listening.
Lin,
My heart goes out to you and all of those that have loved ones deployed. Growing up in a military house I know how hard it can be.
Come to the board for support, and feel free to email me anytime you are feeling down.
Hugs to you and your family.
