I am about 8 weeks post op but i am having trouble formulating a meal plan for the day i just eat whatever and i know its not good to do that so can anyone give me suggestions on what to eat during the day to stay healthy. Can someone suggest a meal plan option or maybe a website i can use to follow a bariatric diet? I still have trouble gaging how much i can actually eat.

Just remember protein first. I ate alot of cottage cheese, one half cup for 13 gms of protein, you can mix splenda or seasoning to taste. String Cheese, 9 gms of protein. Chicken from a can, protein is higher on that too, you can add low fat mayo to it to moisten. I did protein drinks too, I like the profect ones and the Nectar ones. Eggs, another good source of protein, scrambled in a bit of pam spray, season to your taste. or make a small omlette.

My meal plan when I first started was. 7:00 am protein drink 9:00 am scrambled eat or cheese toast 11:00 am protein drink 1:00 pm half of a Michaelina's lean gourmet meal 3:00 pm protein drink 5:pm the other half of the lean meal from lunch For snacks throughout the day I had the Kraft two percent cheese snack size ones. They where a 1 oz serving which had 7 grams of protein. If I didn't eat one of the lean gourmet meals I would have a half a chicken breast and the other half for dinner, sometimes half a hamburger patty and so on. You can also do tuna with fat free mayo. I can't eat regular mayo it makes me very very sick. This was my meal plan and still is most days. Hope it helps some. You can also do cottage cheese and sugar free yogurt I don't care for them but they are good for you. Don't do alot of fruit it has natural sugar and that can make you sick too, plus most of it is high in calories. Apples are good one if you want fruit, or grapefruit with splenda sprinkled on it is delicious. Anything else you want just ask. Tina -141lbs with 50 more to go!

Erin, I will have to go and look back at my notes, my doctors post op diet is very strict and I think at 8 weeks I was just getting to pureed foods. Does your surgeon give you sample diets to follow? Mine did and it was very helpful. I am about to leave for the evening but I will try to see what I was eating back then and let you know. Jodi

Erin, I am not at home right now, but my doc gave a list of the things that you could have at certain points in the recovery, I do remember that you could have cream of wheat, runny mashed potatoes, cheese, and a few other things besides the protein drinks at that stage, when I get home tomorrow I will look up the list of things and send it to you if you like. If you have a fax machine at home, I can even fax the whole list to you, it goes all the way to 6 months out. Let me know if that would help. The time plan that Tina gave you is how my doc wanted us to consume things, but most of the docs seem to have a different agenda for what you could eat at what point. Debbie

I can't imagine that your doctor did not provide some sort of plan... I have the same dr. that Debbie Farrell had, so if she sent you that info. it would be the same as I had. The Protein, protein, protein suggestion is VERY good. I was told that we need to consume 1/2 of our present weight in grams of protein per day. That is a good rule to follow. Also, just eat until you are BARELY full. You will "fill up" more as time goes by. I am almost two years out and that is the "rule" that I still use. Also, the "schedule" of eating that someone posted for you is very important. It is hard not to get into a "grazing" mode when you just eat a small amount at random times. Hope this helps. Hugs, Pam
