I had my EGD today... I did, in fact, have a stricture

UGH. For some reason, the drugs they give me don't really zonk me out like they do other people. I have total recall of the first EGD and this one I remember about 80% of it. The good news is that Dr. Barnes was able to take care of the stricture. The bad news is that I'll most likely have to have another EGD because my stricture was VERY small and he didn't want to expand it too much in one try. It sucks, but at least I know Dr. Barnes can take care of the problem if/when it creeps up again. I'm actually able to eat now!! I'm drinking some soup now. Oh and on Wednesday when I go in for my appointment, they'll advance my diet. The stricture had no effect on that.

I was just wondering how things went today. I am glad that you are feeling better and are able to eat a little more. As for the diet, I hope he advances mine too on Wednesday also these soups and mashed potatoes are getting old. I find myself not eating anything until 3 in the afternoon because nothing sounds or looks good. Did he give you any ideas what that diet would advance too? Talk to ya soon, Tammy

Lin next time you have a EGD ask them to give u more "VERSED" twighlight med's let them know last time u remembered everything. It takes over 2 MG of VERSED for me not to remember anything. Hope this helps Zadie

Lin, I am glad you are doing better, sorry you had to go through that in the first place. I think Dr. Barnes diet is a lot like Dr. Merriman's. They are stricter in their post op diet than alot of the surgeons are. I got to advance my diet at 6 weeks and it was cheese, low fat or fat free, cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, cooked dried beans, peas peanut butter (smooth) saltine crackers this is just a sample. I don't really like cheese or cottage cheese, but I do love blacked eyes peas, so that was something special for me. It is funny looking back on my diet and early pre-op stuff seems like it was so long ago but yet just a few days ago. All the yucky stuff is just a long term memory the good is still so fresh. Wishing you the best. Jodi

I agree with Zadie... TELL Dr. Barnes that you were aware for the majority of the time, and they will up the versed just a bit... if you weren't in pain, there's no need to up the pain med that is given with it... the Versed is an amnesiac (intentionally induces a state where memory is not likely)... it is usually given in doses (especially on the obese) of about 2-3 mg. On my open heart surgery patients, they get Versed 5 mg and Morphine 10 mg IV as a precursor to anesthesia (and we have to rush them to the OR so they don't stop breathing before the anesthesiology team intubates them but for an EGD the dose would definitely be smaller

Thank you everyone for all of your advice and support. Especially about the Versed. I'm going to mention it again to Dr. Barnes that I remember the EGDs. I even remember during the procedure Dr. Stephanie came in and I waved at her. Now the bad part... I don't think the procedure worked!! Well it did a little to be sure, but I am still having the same symptoms, minus the vomitting. I see Dr. Barnes on Wednesday for my six week, but I'm going to call on Monday and hope they're open. I don't want to bother them over the weekend.
