I did something that is sort of cheating and really dumb
I have been dying for food. It's just so hard not to eat. I still have three more weeks of just the all liquid diet. Today I took a few bites of food, chewed it then spit it out. I know that's gross. I just couldnt help it. I hate that I did it too. It's like food is winning again. I know I won't swallow it because I refuse to get sick, but it is just so dumb for me to do that.
Has anyone else done that?
I can have cream soups, jello (gag), pudding, oatmeal, cream of wheat, stuff like that. But I want FOOD so bad. Not even bad food. I'd settle for something that I could just CHEW. UGH. I trust that Dr. Barnes knows what he's doing but this is one of the hardest things I've had to do. Two weeks of clear, sugar-free liquids. Now it's all liquids for four weeks. I hope the next stage is a bit more of chewing.
LIN,
i know what it is you are going through...i am 5 weeks out and my doctor had me on a week of clear liquids with 3 weeks to follow of full liquids...well i kinda cheated myself and ate something i probably wasnt but i thought it would be ok...well i ended up back in the hospital with a hole in my pouch and now i am coming up on my 3rd week with nothing by mouth..i am fed by an iv every night...and when i get out of this i will have to start back over at my clear liquid diet...so i know that it is hard for you but stop and think about the bad stuff that could happen if you accidentally swallow that food....i know that it is hard but i got alot of recipes from my doctor's office and from different people online...and there are different ways of eating the things that we can have...oh and if you have never tried cream of wheat i do not suggest it....i am a grits kind of girl and that settled just fine in my belly as long as it was runny enough..and it was doctor approved...so when you are craving something just think about all the money you have spent and all the pain you are going through..you dont want all that to be moot do you? follow the doctors orders he knows what he is doing. i promise...if you need anything feel free to message me i will help you in any way i can...
Even though I have a different doctor my diet was just like yours. A friend of mine used the Barnes and we have compared diets.
Yes, it was hard but it is so important. I now understand why they are so strict. Your little pouch needs time to heal and they feel like the liquids will help out more in the healing process. I had to go through Christmas and that was hard, especially since I cooked for my family. I fixed ribeyes and twice baked potatoes for our Christmas dinner, I was still on clear liquids but I did have a bite of the potatoes. Also on NewYears day I wanted some black eyed peas. I had a couple. I figured they were very soft and hopefully it would be ok. I know some people actually get food in the hospital. One time we had take out from Nickey's I stuck a chip in the hot sauce and sucked the hot sauce off. I didn't eat the chip but I sure did enjoy the salty taste of it. At that point I was on pureed foods so I felt the hot sause was ok, not the chips.
You will do fine.
Take care,
Jodi
Hi lin,
I noticed you were from Ft. Polk, La. Did you have your surgery at Ft. Polk? My daughter had hers there 4 years ago. The hospital gave her pureed food(they weren't supposed to) and she held it down so the doctor told her if it didn't hurt her to go ahead with it. So her liquid diet didn't last very long. She's doing great!
Good Luck with your diet and eating, I know it's tough.
