Another date :-(
Well today Dr. Richardson's office called and apparently he is going to be out of town on July 5th for vacation and so Melissa had to reschedule. I am now having to wait another week, with surgery NOW being scheduled for 07/12/06. I guess I really shouldnt complain though because I saw him on May 15 and now have surgery scheduled with insurance approval a mere 8 weeks after.
I have a question though for you post-oppers -- Two weeks prior to surgery we have a special liquid diet? Anyone want to share with me HOW they got passed this and what this EXACTLY entails?????
Stephanie
Stephanie, have you gone to see the dietitian yet? I know their regular dietitian was not available until July 3, so somehow they managed to get me to see Eve Dansereau, the Primary Care dietitian. Eve was VERY helpful in helping me figure out the details of this diet. Unfortunately, my slow brain still has remnants of the guidelines set forth by the dietitian who worked with Dr. Martin, the surgeon with whom I was supposed to have RNY last year. So my conceptualization is kind of a hybrid between the two.
I took notes from my visit with Eve and I'd be glad to pass along the info to you. Unfortunately, the notes are in my office! If you have a fax number, e-mail me and I'll send them by the afternoon. Otherwise, I won't be able to get them to you until evening. Just let me know!
Finally, I just wanted to mention that believe it or not, you WILL find it easier after a few days!
It's not that hard. Just think about the benefits your gonna get in the long run. Mine entailed just liquids. I was told if I can drink it through a straw I could have it. I made chili alot and just drank the soup it was good. My husband had to eat his dry though but he was alright with it. I also strained the noodles out of chicken noodle soup and that was good too. Drink alot of water too. The main reason for the liquids is to shrink your liver. If they get in there and your liver is too big they may have to convert to open and that will require a longer hospital stay and a longer recovery time. I also think that doing the liquids helps to prepare you for after surgery when you can't eat anything for weeks. To me it would have been harder to go have it and just be cut off like that. At least this way you are preparing for what is too come. Good luck with your surgery.
