I'm feeling ok. Just still really sore. I never had heartburn, but I think I'm having some now. Today was the first time I weighed myself. i've lsot 12lbs. That is AWESOME. Does anyone know of a support group in or around Ft. Polk/Leesville?

HI Lin!!!! Congrat's on your surgery. There used to be a group that met at Fort Polk. I'd call the surgery clinic or the nutrition clinic to see if it still does. I heard good things and "some not so good things" about it. However, I never have made it to a meeting. I'd be interested in going if it's still going on.......if you want a buddy. Hope you feel better with the heartburn stuff....still fighting that myself! Kendra

I was thinking about you the other day and wondered what the status was with your surgery. I couldn't remember your name but knew you were from Ft Polk. Wishing you the best, Jodi

Hi Lin, Welcome to the Loser's Club! Hope you get rid of the HB. I also am looking for a Support group. I am in the Eunice/Opelousas area. I have asked before, but no response. Maybe there isn't one. Patricia

Hi Lin, Glad to hear everything went well!! Call you surgeon about the heartburn, I did and they called in a prescription for something. If you had reflux before surgery, you may still need something. Wow, 12 lbs, that is wonderful!! Keep up the great work!!

Lin: Congrats on your surgery. I remember you posting that you had to reschedule it (at least I think that was you) and I had been wondering if you had had it yet. I don't believe the support group at Fort Polk meets anymore. I haven't been in the last 2 months. The last time I went it was just me and the moderator who showed up. Once everyone knew that Dr. Shapiro was leaving, attendance really fell off. I guess the new surgeon doesn't do gastric bypass, because I've run into several people who have been referred to Dr. Chung in Lake Charles. If you see me working at the deli in the commissary and have any questions, I'll be glad to help if I can. Cathy

If anyone would like to attend our support group (Dr. Chung's group), you are MORE than welcome. We hold support group the 2nd Thursday of each month in Lake Charles at Women and Children's Hospital, just off of the interstate. They start at 6pm and last about 1 1/2 hours. So, our next group is tomorrow night. We have patients from all over who have had surgery with many different groups that attend. Each month, Dr. Chung leads the group himself. He gives us time to talk about any issues we would like to discuss and offers a professional opinion on it. I'd like to think that we teach him alot, too! After open discussion, he always has a topic on weight loss surgery that is important to our short and long term success. Tomorrow night's topic is "Emotional Eating and Weight Regain after the Initial Loss". Last month was "How to use the Glycemic Index to Maximize Satiety and Weight Loss". They're great and everyone is invited. If anyone wants directions, please feel free to call the office at 337-433-1303 or e-mail me. I'm the Bariatric Coordinator for Dr. Chung and a 7 month out patient (-76 pounds, Diabetes and Hypertension)
