Crawfish??
Hello,
I am from New Orleans but currently live in Virginia (D.C.) I just had my surgery on May 9th and was wondering if after a few months can I have crawfish? I don't plan on coming home for a visit for at least 6 mo. So has anyone had any after surgery and if so, how long after is it safe? I am worried about the spices.
Thanks,
Andrea
Hi Andrea!
My husband is from the D.C.-area and we live in South Louisiana now. A couple of things, crawfish are extremely low in fat (almost fat-free) and are pretty easy to chew and digest. Good source of protein. After all that peeling and tossing shells, it's also a slow process on the "actual eating" and that's another good thing.
Last weekend, I went to a crawfish boil. I peel and reserve about 6-7 at a time before eating them. If you did this, you could choose to rinse them out if they are too spicey. It, of course, varies, not all crawfish are spicy -- that can be adjusted if you are making your own and rinsing can help if someone went overboard in making them.
Last thing, there will be no fresh crawfish in six months. If you buy tails or have them in a dish, those concerns should be void.
Side note: The orange-ish colored "fat" in crawfish as we call it isn't fat at all. It's the pancreas of the crawfish and doesn't contain any actually dietary fat.
Hope you enjoy!
Frances
Hi Andrea,
Crawfish is great!!! I eat it as often as I can get it... in fact I can eat 5 lbs boiled... but once they are peeled; I have no idea how much that is... but my doc said that was fine... You'll be fine with them... whenever you can eat fish and things like that... Goodluck and congratulations on your surgery!!!
