from what I understand gout is often related to food and weight. I would ask your surgeon how likely you are to continue to have flare-ups after surgery. And explain to him/her that you are worried about flare ups and treatment of said flare-ups. I bet they have some idea of post surgical outcomes.
good luck and I hope you are feeling better! my friends hubby gets it and wow it sounds painful

Absolutely write down all your questions and ask the Doctor on your first visit!.
Congrats on the approval!!!
I was in just for one night... was sore but it was I found the more you got up and walked around the better I started to feel... the first 2-3 days your sore, but everyday you get better and better... As far as your liquids/soft foods etc.. you'll find that the doctors are all different. Mine was 2 weeks liquids 2 weeks soft foods then move onto regular food.
The fills, In my opinion are nothing.... If their a good doctor and know where your port is you'll have NO problems!!!! I was VERY nervous my first fill... then after I was like..what the heck did I get all uptight about... But thats me... nothing to be worried about.
good luck and keep us posted!!!
who is your surgeon ???

Let me put it this way and yes this sounds graphic but it's not, this was so easy that if they offered to do it again I would hop up on the operating table and slice my own self open.
The incisions are so itty bitty, the largest one is for your port placement and that is barely 2 inches long. Most doctors use derma bond they don't even have to use outward stiches, so the scars look like little dark lines in your skin) that there is hardly any pain more like an uncomfortable feeling, your left side will probably be the sorest as most surgeons do the majority of the work from that side.
The thing that actually is the most uncomfortable is the surgical gas that they pump into your abdomen to help them pinpoint everything they are looking for but post surgery the more you move around and pace up and down the hallway and around your house the sooner that goes away and that feeling may last 18 to 24 hours.
A perfect example of how easy this surgery is my husband had his done on a Wednesday and one week and a day later(the following Thursday ) he played 18 holes of golf and didn't even ride in a cart. My mother-in-law had hers done 4 days after my husband was outside 3 days later planting her flowers in her flower beds on her hand and knees for the seaon. I had mine done on a Wednesday went to the movies that Friday and then went on a shopping trip at the mall with my daughter and 2 of her friends the next day on Saturday.
Diet- most doctors have you do lquids for the 1st 2 weeks , then pureed's for a week then softs a week and then you slowly incorporate for solids.
I was suppose to be off work for about a week(but I worked alcohol and drug rehab with 24 teenage girls and 2 days after I came back almost all of my clients were quarantined to their rooms with a terrible, terrible virus which I of course picked up and ended up being off work for 3 weeks total) My husband had surgery on Wednesday and was back at work full force on Monday.
The fills a re nothing it's easier than getting an IV it barely feels like a bee sting and it takes less than 3 minutes to do
I think everyone's experience is different with all surgeries. My mom had open heart surgery 15 years(3 weeks before xmas) ago and they told her she would be layed up 3-4 weeks after 2 weeks she went to the grocery store and finished all of her xmas shopping and decorated her whole house tree and all.
So don't worry take it easy, drink your water and in the begining walk off that surgical gas

Hi I was banded on Sept. 24th. I spent one nite in the hospital, Just for insurance purpose. I was a little uncomfortable for about 2 days, but not really in a lot of pain.
Up and walking within a couple of hours and wanting to go home. Trust me I was scared to death also. I was amazed at how easy it went and hardly no pain at all just discomfort. Dr. Wheeler in Ashland did my Realize Band , He is the best. So quit being afraid and everything will be fine for you.

Hi AC,
I didn't have a band but I had RNY with Dr Wheeler. They will explain it all on your first visit. Write down all your questions and the Surgical Weight Loss people will go over it all. KDMC has support group meetings the second Thursday every month. There are always people that have had a band as well as rny there. It starts at 6pm in the lobby of the SWL offices, right next to the surgeons offices.
